Dancing on 5th avenue in Manila. Never did I imagine pickleball could take me halfway across the world to play, laugh, teach, and compete. I am so grateful for the opportunities that Friday Pickleball has led me to. If you go for a lot of Ernes, beware of these rules! As per usual with kitchen violations, you cannot launch from or land in the kitchen when hitting an Erne. You also can’t fall into the kitchen due to momentum of the Erne! A less well-known rule is that if you don’t hit the ball (like whiffing the ball as seen in this clip), you are NOT allowed to cross the plane of the net to your opponents’ side. If you break the plane, you lose the point. This is ultimately how Matt would have lost this point in an official match, but fortunately, we were just playing rec games for fun so the point continued until my counter 😁 Paddle: @fridaypickleball Aura Pro (code KEVINDONG saves you $10) Clothes: @centerlineathleticsllc (code KEVINDONG saves 30%) Insoles: @teamvktry (my profile link saves you 20%) Follow @kevindongpickleball for more pickleball highlights, tips, and clips #pickleballhighlights #pickleballrules #pickleballtips #kevindongpickleball #fridaypickleball by @kevindongpickleball

Am I bad friend? I broke golden rule No. 1 because I didn’t believe in @alliereichert.pb ‘s speed! It’s like she started wearing VKTRY Insoles and didn’t tell me! Ball hogging isn't always a bad thing! But you need to know when to do it and when not to do it. Here are the cues that will help you look for the right times to play big! VERY important to note: you also need to make sure you and your partner are both on the same page about court coverage so you’re not ruining their pickleball experience. Big thanks to @centerlineathleticsllc for my clothing (code KEVINDONG saves you 30% on clothes!) Shutting down a speed up feels so good, but don’t forget Golden Rule #1: The ball always comes back! Who covers the middle? The answer is… it depends. Yes, respect the x is great for when you defend the initial speed up, but there are all sorts of situations where one could argue one or both players need to help cover the middle. That’s why you need to be aware of where the ball is likely to go and be ready to hit even if your partner fully whiffs in front of you (easier said than done of course!). Train your hand speed like PPA Gold Medalist @elliott_schupp_pickleball . Technically, he recommends a delaminated fridge door, but this wall is all I have available to me at the moment. How to do the drill: feed yourself an overhead to start the “hands battle” against the wall. Elliott says his goal is to end the rally in ~3 shots to really maximize his speed and eye tracking. My goal is anywhere 3-10 while I acclimate to the speed. What you need to do this drill like I do: @vantagelaboratory protective eyewear (code KEVINDONG saves you 10%) @fridaypickleball Aura Pro for the power!
