“Now you’re a Canadian!” said a friend in my 🙋‍♀️ week 2 in Canada when I paddled a canoe for the first time - didn’t know how to swim back then, but the love of canoeing and kayaking grew so strong that for a decade, this would be my fav activity all summer; still without knowing how to swim!

So when we had kids, we decided to introduce them to this very Canadian activity before they even learnt to sit on their own. Snuggled between our legs, wearing life jackets bigger than themselves, they would ride along and we would continue paddling - all summer long!

We’ve canoed/kayaked in the ocean, the seas, the Great Lakes and even small lakes, but nothing felt as special as canoeing over Lake Louise - for the water was so clear and blue, it felt like we were also floating.
Special thanks to @fairmontcll for an upgrade during our 4 night stay that included this bucket list activity.

Growing up, I was infatuated with a Japanese series, Oshin. It was about a girl from rural Japan who takes a journey back in time, traveling through various parts of the country, reminiscing the difficult times she faced in her life and how through her perseverance, eventually achieved success and fame. I was so obsessed with Oshin, her culture, her traditions, the food and the places she visited that I dreamt of being transported into her world one day. However, as a child I always wondered: How can you eat all that food with chopsticks???

Fast forward to 30 years, I made it to Oshin’s land. I was in awe of her culture, the traditions, their food, the places - and for the entire two weeks, I only ate with chopsticks!

We’ve created our own Oshin mini-film. If it was ever actually on Netflix, what title would you give it?

No wonder this world heritage site attracts visitors by the thousands (Oprah was here a day after us!)
And while it is just as breathtaking as the IG photos and videos, what you may not realize is that Petra was a huge metropolis and what you see today are remnants of various neighbourhoods within that ancient city - so be prepared to walk - a lot! And remember, to see it all on foot takes time, energy and careful planning - otherwise you run the risk of burning out rather than enjoying all the bucket list places.
Our biggest tip is this: rather than start at the main entrance that is near Petra Visitor Centre, ask your hotel or a local to guide or drop you all the way to the other, lesser known end called Little Petra by 8am.
This has two benefits: your full day’s walk back towards the entrance, through all the important sites, will be mostly downhill.
And second, you will get to the top attraction like the Monastery before the crowds who would have started at the main gates, get their by late afternoon.
If you follow our route, you will see the following sites in this order:
🌟Little Petra to Monastery hike through beautiful red valleys
🌟local merchants that line the hike down Qasr Al Bint gorge
🌟camels you can ride from the Colonnade Street with a view of the Great Temple
🌟incredible stone carved circular Theatre (only one of its kind in the world)
🌟Royal Tombs, which will be a bit of a climb from the Colonnaded Street
🌟Street of Facades with towering flat walls with carvings
🌟the Treasury - Most crowded part of Petra where many tours that started from the main gate actually end!
🌟Siq - The narrow gorge that winds its way through pink wavy rocks.
🌟Djin blocks - Which do give a very haunted vibe.
🌟the main gates where most tourists start their Petra hike, not knowing the next 14 km, one way, is mostly uphill!

ONE DAY Itinerary below.
This capital city by the Baltic Sea isn’t on most people’s northern Europe itinerary - but it should be!
Tallin surprised us with its burst of colours, culture and cuisine - not to mention friendly locals.

The transit system is fast and efficient, but Tallin is so compact, we mostly used Bolt taxi app and then walked.
Itinerary:
Start your morning by taking a cab all the way up to the top of Toompea Hill, and get dropped off in front of Alexander Nevsky Cathedral. This Russian Orthodox church is free to enter and it is so colourful inside out.

From here, make the short 6 minute walk to the two lookout points where you can enjoy breathtaking views of Tallinn’s red roofs. Make sure you do both viewing platforms: Kohtuotsa (great gift shop here !) and Patkuli.

Then, it is a scenic cobblestone walk down into Tallinn’s Old Town where you can easily spend most of your day.

For Lunch, try a tavern experience inside Olde Hansa for a rustic meal with live performances.

The Town Hall and Square is wonderful - make sure to come here after sunset again for a lively atmosphere.

On the edge of Old Town, by the stone towers, make sure to visit the flower shops.

We stayed at Hilton Tallinn Park, which was a fantastic and affordable choice, a very short cab ride from Old Town and the airport and ferry.

This is literally the view as we step out our front door. Autumn has been a bit delayed this year in southern Ontario, but as vibrant as ever, with the Maple, Cherry and Ginkgo Biloba trees putting on a spectacular show into November, all across Oakville. #explorecanada #autumnvibes by @khanadians

That bottle was spinning nowhere except in the direction of Sweden's Skåne region.
It is highly accessible from Denmark, with direct trains from Copenhagen to Malmo and onto Helsinborg and Gothenburg.
It is a great idea for a day-trip from Copenhagen.
HIDDEN GEM: carve out some time to visit the fishing village of RAA. Easily reached by bus from Helsingborg's train station, it is a gorgeous Scandinavian seaside town with colourful homes and local cafes.

And just like that, our train from Copenhagen 🇩🇰pulled into Malmo, Sweden🇸🇪
That’s the 57th country we have visited.
However, Nauman says the number is over 60 because we should count the overseas territories separately because they identify as stand alone nations. His rationale: they have their own flags and send their own contestants to Miss World and Miss Universe pageants 😃🤣.
So, with that logic, we should count:
Bermuda 🇧🇲 (British Overseas Territory)
Puerto Rico 🇵🇷 (US Territory)
St Thomas and St Croix 🇻🇮 (US Virgin Islands )
Sint Maarten 🇸🇽 (Netherlands)
Tortola 🇻🇬 (British overseas territory)
What’s your advice ? by @khanadians

Two day itinetary below 👇
🍁Fall is the perfect time to fall in love with Copenhagen!
It can be chilly, but once the sun comes out, it becomes the most cozy and romantic city.
Also, don’t spend extra money staying central. Copenhagen’s transit system is affordable and efficient; so we found an amazing hotel across from a Metro stop in Orestad.

⛅️(Early) Mornings:
For Breakfast, make your way to any of Copenhagen’s famed bakeries for baked treats and coffee. They are everywhere and most open at 7:30
Post breakfast, take transit to Grundtvigs Church - the most stunning architecture you will ever see inside.

☀️Afternoons:
Take Metro down to central hub of Nyhavn,
the longest pedestrian shopping street of Strogen, and
walk the canals with vibrant coloured buildings. You will pay a premuim if you eat on the canal facing street, but there are several hidden gems in side streets that make amazing traditional Danish platter of Smorrebrod.
After lunch, Metro and then a bit of a long walk to Kastellat for windmill views and the famous mermaid statue by the sea.

✨Evening:
Only If day is clear, good to climb up the tower at Frederik’s Church; otherwise skip it.
End the evening in the University of Copenhagen neighbourhood, the streets are truly alive.

On your second day, you can spend the mornings at Tivoli Gardens (food hall is free) and stroll the King’s Garden at Rosenborg Castle for amazing photos.
You can also visit the Botanical Garden nearby.

It can’t be a keychain ($5) fridge magnet ($7) or a coffee mug ($18)
Any T-shirt or hat we liked was over $30
And local artists were selling miniature prints for $300(without frame)
In the end, we found these second-print postcards that were reasonable. We’ll just frame it ourselves.
Do we need to up our budget or is Copenhagen just too expensive? by @khanadians

Copenhagen’s hidden architectural gem you need to save! 🇩🇰

At first glance, Grundtvigs Kirke looks almost unreal — a monumental church built from golden-yellow bricks, with a facade that feels like a work of art. Here’s why it deserves a spot on your Copenhagen itinerary:

🌀An architectural masterpiece! Its striking design and symmetrical brickwork make it unlike any other church in the city.
🌀Doesn’t the tower look familiar? If it reminds you of Hallgrímskirkja in Reykjavík, you’re not alone! Both share a dramatic, stepped silhouette inspired by Nordic landscapes and forms.
🌀A little outside the city centre, but easy to reach by public transport — and absolutely worth the detour!

‼️Pro tip: Visit on a sunny day to see the warm bricks glow, and step inside if it’s open to admire the soaring brick arches.

📌Save this for your Copenhagen trip and share it with someone who loves finding hidden gems!

Be honest — did you think this was Copenhagen or Reykjavík?

If you have a layover of 3 or more hours in Munich, you’ve gotta check out this dreamy Old Town just 15 min by bus or train.
📍Freisenberg, Germany
We caught local MVV bus 635 just outside the arrivals hall at Munich Airport.
It costs EUR7.50 for a day tocket and cheaper for one way.
In 15-20 mins, Bus drops you right outside the main train station. Just walk north, away from the tracks and within 10 minutes you will be in Freising Old Town Square, with colourful facades, cafes and shops.
