2024 was a difficult year - with the loss of my beloved pet and companion dog Murphy, my meniscus repair surgery 4 months ago, and some unexpected news over the holidays.

On account of all of that, I didn't post about my Alcohol Sobriety milestone that happened on 12/26/24, Marking 3 years of no alcohol.

I am grateful for those that walked the path and paved the way for me, demonstrating that it was both possible and rewarding.

I have no regrets about quitting, and knowing what I know now, and how I feel - I wish I would have started my journey earlier.

Wishing you all the best in the New Year, and I fully support you in pausing to re-examine your relationship with alcohol. Pauses can bring new perspectives, and new perspectives can foster change.

With Love,
Kirk by @kirkjhansen

Ingrid and I started off the family trip with a show at The Big Top Chautauqua in Bayfield, WI. Then lots of quality time with the extended family and Colorado Cousins.

Since we are coming up on 8 years, and the family was in town, we released John and Fran's ashes into Lake Samoset. It was hard. It was heavy. It was beautiful. It felt necessary. It brought lightness. I've never seen ashes move through water before. It's something I'll never forget. And I'll always remember the sparkles on the water as we cruised back to land. 💖Thanks for everything, Mom and Dad💖

It was delightful to see my love of and fascination for bubbles span the generations🫧 Ingrid is beyond great, a gift from the Heavens, and I hope y'all get to meet her soon.

We had a Stone Fruit sampler on the drive home. The white nectarines were the best-in-show, and the plumbs were peak plumbiness.

See ya later this summer! by @kirkjhansen

It's been a weird, and foggy, month without MurphMan. I am grateful for my friends that came into town to support and grieve alongside me, and celebrate his life. And I am particularly grateful for Ingrid's presence, support, and empathy during this process. AND her beautiful dog, Reyna. Reyna is a 9 year old XL Pit that is sweet-as-can-be, and she gives even more kisses than Murphy did. We polished up, dressed up, and danced away some of the sadness at the Rust Belt before heading up North for some family time. Weird looking strawberry, eh?

Today was a hard day. Waking up to Murphy's absence was anticipated, but was harder than expected.

It's kind of like when the power goes out - and you don't realize how much you depend on electricity for your day-to-day needs - until it's out. That's how I feel right now. I always knew he was a Special Dood...but damn, in his absence I am reminded what an essential part of my everyday life, and identity, he was.

It was a tough day at the dental clinic, but I made it through, and then I had the wonderful privilege of sharing a 60 minute Sound Bath with some Yoga Teacher Trainees in the evening .

After the session, I walked outside to see a magnificent rainbow - and wept. I just knew it was Murph letting me know he made it to the "other side", and that he was pleased with the Sound and Healing work I am sharing with the world. What a gift that was, to see and feel his presence and support from the other side. Sure, maybe it was just a meteorological coincidence...but it felt "real" to me.

Anyways - grief is hard, and weird, and it helps me to share all these beautiful photos of my Handsome Boy.

So... here's some more photos.

His "wheaten" colored fur was a great backdrop for catching the prismatic rainbows in our home. And, I forgot he went to Res Rocks!?! How cool??
His eyes were very expressive, and were a beautiful caramel color when the light hit them right. Or they were neon green when reflecting in the darkness of night.
He was a super frisky puppy, and looked like a lil' teddy bear with his "puppy coat". He liked water (only up to his elbows) and always paused to appreciate flowers. He was a pretty smiley guy.

Love ya, MurphMan - thanks for the rainbow message tonight, and for the hawk feather I found Monday night🐾🪶🌈🥹🥰 by @kirkjhansen

Today my beautiful, and incomparable, Murphy McScraggles Hansen - Mr. RainbowFace - crossed the rainbow bridge at age 11.

Murph, aka My Handsome Guy, The Dood, McScraggles, Scragz, MuppetFace, NoodleHead, CatfishBeard...the dog with SO many nicknames, and one unique and unforgettable personality. To know Murph was to love him, and likely get your toes nibbled, lol

He was such a loyal companion. He has been such a big part of my adulthood, and will be sorely missed. His sounds, his presence, his Love. I am grateful for the many, many photos I took (he HATED having his photo taken, but was a very . majestic subject) but wish I had more videos of his antics.

Nothing lasts forever, but I sure do wish I had more time with this magical creature.

This will be a difficult journey of grieving and processing, and I'll be sharing more photos - cause I love him and already miss him so dang much.

Rest in Peace, Murphy Hansen by @kirkjhansen

Day 20-21 Montezuma

Welp... it's the end of the trip, folks. It sure was an adventure!!
We spent our last hours soaking up every last bit of the magical, surprisingly empty, Montezuma beach - marveling at the power and beauty of the waves. Gee whiz gang - I fell in love with the Pacific Ocean!?!

Lots of Big Feels™️ as we wrap up a Holiday more excellent and vibrant than I could have ever imagined. The Stoke was high, as I finally tracked down the elusive Rasta Tank Top and Indy and I squoze out one last, itty-bitty, sunset. The smiles say it all😁🤙😁

We timed our wake up to coincide with the peninsula wide power outage, so we could brew some coffee and blend up some Sandia agua fresca before we lost electricity. After our "liquid breakfast", I cut up, and we savored, the *best* mangoes of our lives. A precedent was set.

A crowded, hot, delayed, yet economic bus ride took us to our inter-Costa flight back to Liberia.

We didn't spend any real time in Liberia at the start of our trip, and had an overnight on our way back. We stopped by the Mega Pali to get some final coconuts, trying our newly learned trick to crack them open on a curb. a Good Samaritan saw us comedically making little progress, and offered to help expedite with a machete he pulled out from his trunk! Thanks , Machete Man, you saved us some juice!!All in all, it was a bit more urban and depressed than expected. The yin and yang, I suppose.

A smooth travel back home - things lined up and we got lucky, but traveling with a Seasoned Pro like Indy makes it such a low stress experience.

We arrived back to wet pavement and 58-ish degrees, it was colder than I remembered, lol! I had thought that I would have missed most of spring, but I was so happy to see that the Lilacs were still in bloom😍

Indy had less than 2 weeks to sort through the last of this possessions and get his gear dialed in for his fast-approaching, epic, 'round the world bike journey - Cycling Kindness. I was honored to get one of the first looks at his super-sweet pendant-flag, and had the privilege of dropping him off at the airport.

You can peep the awesome flag and experience his adventures@cycling_kindness by @kirkjhansen

Day 19 Montezuma

We woke up fresh after the great food and full moon, and decided to walk down to the beach after a profound rapé ceremony. Rapé (or hapé) came into my life serendipitously, and has been pivotal and transformative. Ceremonies are so humbling and grounding. A shared experience in suffering and presence and gratitude.

I believe there are people that come into your life at certain times to help you along your path. To see something, share something, hear something. Hanging and cooking with our new international friends has been so easy and joyful, it feels like a blessing.

We had one last beach hang together, as a Magical Family, before parting ways. They taught us the best way to enjoy a mango (halfed, scooped, scored, lemon juiced, banana slices, and passion fruit if ya got it (we didn't)). But, it was a game changer, and a proper send off snack for our special, bracelet making Buddies! The water is beautiful, and the waves big and fierce!

Day 18 Continued

We walked down a steep, steep hill road to town (yes, we would hike back up with bags of groceries and a grown-ass watermelon!) to catch sunset, moonrise, and scoop some groceries.

Great Vibes, empty beaches, and an above average sunset led into an EPIC Existential Scream at the Full Moon and Thrash In the Waves Party™️

It was SO Bright. Like, "looked like the sunset" bright.

After some profound realizations and releases, we stopped by the local (and only) super mini and got ingredients for Pastel de Papa - a Hetty, plant based, mega vegan, flavor bomb made by our magical family and personal chefs at Apio Galactica - Galactic Celery.

Wwoooowww woowwww wow wow!!

Last full day tomorrow.

Day 18 - it really is day 18, because that's when we got to Montezuma, which was our last stop before heading home.

We had a delayed departure leaving bustling Santa Teresa, on account of hostel check-outs, shuttle pick-ups, and friends arrivals. Finding the flow. We had a bumpy ride to Casa Tranquila, and were checked into an UNBELIEVABLE crib, with beautiful views of the Pacific Ocean and pool. It's good we didn't believe it, because we were checked into the wrong place, LoL. Our man Andrés got it straightened out, and we leveled down, to level up, to a cozier cottage with monkey views!! A rapé ceremony and deep gratitude for friendship and kindness. Safe spaces, dangly vines, and trees that hug back✨🧘🏼✨

Our Agrentinian friends, Cosmic Family, and Professional Chefs - Abril y Mora joined us in exploring Montezuma. The Vida is back above baseline. Pura AF🤙. Let's do this, Montezuma (aka Montefuma-r, LoL)
