Pre-pre-season is underway 🏉

Last week we kicked off the first session with the Northcote Colts (U21s). The beginning of what will be a gradual build towards pre-season.

At this stage, it’s not about smashing the boys. It’s about building the foundations, developing consistency and preparing their bodies for the demands of senior rugby.

Week 1 focused on:

✅ Dynamic movement & activation > getting the body warm, mobile and moving well

✅ Whole-body strength > building strength, control and movement quality

✅ Aerobic conditioning > starting to build the engine without unnecessary fatigue

✅ Repeat-effort work > introducing some of the demands they’ll face on the field

✅ Trunk, shoulder & lower-limb robustness > building resilience and strengthening the areas that need to withstand the demands of rugby

✅ Mobility > finishing by moving well and helping the body recover

The goal is simple: work hard, build gradually and leave feeling like you could come back and do it again.

There’s a long way to go before pre-season, and that’s exactly the point.

Build the base now.
Get stronger.
Move better.
Build resilience.
Then gradually turn up the intensity.

Week 2 loading! 🏉💪

Such a privilege to be a part of their journey and the future of @northcoterugby as we build to our 100 years.

Another year as part of the Betty Squad 💗

I’m incredibly grateful to have been selected to be part of the Betty Squad for another year.

Being part of this community is such a privilege. It’s so much more than being part of a team — it’s being surrounded by women who support, encourage and celebrate each other, who show up for themselves and for one another, and who remind each other that we’re capable of more than we sometimes believe. We are sisters. We are Betty Squad.

This past year has looked very different for me, and being part of the Betty Squad through some of those highs and lows has meant more than I probably realised at the time.

I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunity to continue being part of this amazing group of women, to share the journey, learn from each other, challenge myself and hopefully encourage others along the way.

Here’s to another year of community, connection, movement, challenges, laughs and plenty of memories. 💗

Very grateful. Very excited. And very proud to be a Betty. ✨ @bettydesigns

One little gland.

One little pill.

And yet, the thyroid can influence so many of the things we barely think about until something changes.

Energy. Metabolism. Heart rate. Body temperature. Brain function. Muscles. Digestion. Sleep. Weight. So much of the way our bodies function quietly in the background.

Since my thyroid cancer diagnosis and surgery, I’ve developed a whole new appreciation for this tiny little organ.

And for the tiny little pill that now plays an important part in helping my body function without it.

This Thyroid Cancer Awareness Month, I wanted to share a reminder that sometimes the things we barely notice are doing some of the most important work.

Small gland. Big job. 💜

Know your body. Notice changes. Ask questions. And don’t be afraid to advocate for yourself.

I’m trying to make my nutrition a little simpler at the moment — focusing on whole foods, plenty of protein, fibre and nourishing ingredients, while keeping things practical enough for real life.

So I adapted one of my favourite protein breakfasts into a 5-serve batch prep.

And yes… I added ginger. 🤎

🌱 Why I’m making breakfasts like this

I’m not trying to make my food as restrictive as possible.

I’m trying to make it nourishing, satisfying and sustainable — while creating the deficit I need to reach my goals and making sure I have enough fuel to train when my body is ready.

For me, that means:

✔️ Prioritising protein
✔️ Plenty of whole foods
✔️ Fibre and plants
✔️ Carbohydrates that support training
✔️ Preparing ahead so busy mornings don’t dictate what I eat (or worse, if I don’t eat)
✔️ Creating a calorie deficit without completely under-fuelling myself

Five breakfasts ready to go. One small step towards making healthy choices the easy choices. 🤍

Recipe and details in comments.

Scanxiety.

A word I’d never really heard before this journey, but one I now understand all too well.

There’s something about waiting for a scan, sitting with uncertainty, and knowing that the results could change how you feel about what comes next.

Even when you’re told things are looking positive, the waiting can still be hard.

Your mind fills in the gaps. You wonder. You worry. You try to stay rational, while a little voice keeps asking, “What if?”

I’m learning that I can’t control the results. I can’t control the waiting.

But I can control how I care for myself while I wait.

So this is another reminder to myself, and perhaps to anyone else navigating their own journey, that it’s okay to feel anxious. It doesn’t mean you’re not strong. It just means you care.

I’ve written a little more about scanxiety, uncertainty, and learning to sit with the things we can’t control in my latest blog.

On Sunday I ran my first world major marathon.

I had no training.
I had no expectations.
I gave myself permission to stop whenever I needed to.

There were tears, pain, plenty of conversation with myself… and a finish line I’ll never forget.

It wasn’t about the time. It wasn’t about the distance.

It was about resilience, hope, the people who believed in me, and finding a little piece of myself again.

Somewhere along those 42.2km, it became about so much more than running.

I’ve written about it all in my latest blog ‘The Finish Line’ 🏁 🔗 in bio 💜
