Today, we close out our Style Issue with a reminder that style is about so much more than what we wear. As publisher of Fort Collins City Lifestyle, I’ve always believed it’s about the people behind the story.

I’ve always been much more comfortable telling someone else’s story than stepping into my own. Sharing more of yourself can feel uncomfortable, and I’ll admit, this issue asked me to do a little more of that than I’m used to.

I wanted these pages to celebrate strong women for who they are and what they bring into a room. Kari Sanders, Jenna Hepp McEnaney and Ashley Stiles each brought something completely their own, warmth, humor, individuality, strength and a presence that made this shoot feel so special.

And then there’s Bob Younger, owner of Bob Younger Images, who captured all of it so beautifully. Not just the polished photos, but the in-between moments, the laughter, the movement, the conversations and the energy of the day. Those behind-the-scenes moments are some of my favorites, and I’m so grateful to Bob for seeing and capturing them the way he did.

This shoot reminded me that beauty isn’t something we put on. It’s in the laughter, the friendships, the kindness and the little moments that reveal who someone really is.

Style can catch your attention, but it’s who you are that leaves the impression.

That, to me, is style at its best.

Style tells a story. And this was a fun one to photograph.

A look behind the scenes of my shoot for the Style Issue of Fort Collins City Lifestyle Magazine, photographed at the incredible Buxton Hotel in Fort Collins.

The assignment was about more than clothes. This issue explores style as personality, confidence, individuality and the way we choose to show up in the world.

And this location? Come on. The rich colors, vintage details, artwork and character of The Buxton gave us something interesting to work with in practically every direction I pointed the camera.

Kari Sanders, Jenna Hepp McEnaney, Ashley Stiles and the entire crew brought the personality. My job was to take all of that—the people, the location, the fashion and the energy—and turn it into photographs that felt like the story they were telling.

This is the kind of photography I love: beautiful images with a purpose behind them.

Our September issue of Fort Collins City Lifestyle, explores style in all its forms. It’s found in what we wear, the spaces we create, the confidence we carry and the way we choose to show up in the world.
