Official trailer: Nevertheless: Democracy Defenders

When freedom is under threat, who steps up to defend it? Season 2 of Elevate Studios’ docuseries — Executive Produced by @kerrywashington and @simpsonstreet — follows four of our extraordinary Elevate Prize winners who are doing just that: taking on rising polarization, threats to civil liberties, and democratic backsliding around the world.

Meet Hannah Fried of @allvotingislocal, @imranahmedccdh of @countering_harm, @kmoeti of @amandla.mobi, and @eyordanos of Keseb. Together, they’re showing what it means to refuse to yield when our freedoms are on the line.

So honored to share their critical work with the world.

We’re also proud to have @kerrywashington and her production company, @simpsonstreet, join us as executive producers for this season.

This Indigenous Peoples’ Day, we recognize the importance of protecting and expanding people’s rights and freedoms; the same values at the heart of the stories we’re telling.

Gardening with my squad = me leaving them to it, using the excuse of needing to climb the tree for avos. It works till I need help coming down, but it’s always worth it 👌🏿 by @kmoeti

@mlangenisabelo’s ‘Men Only’ series shows life at the George Goch Hostel. I live close to it and the Jeppe Hostel. There’s a tavern close to me that I used to love to go to before 2020, which is mostly frequented by hostel dwellers. Ubers and Bolts don’t do pickups there, you have to walk to Maboneng to request.

One of my favourite things about it, after getting over my initial trepidation, was just watching the men who after a certain hour start playing gospel music on the jukebox, playing pool or sitting at tables and talking about their lives. It’s intimate, can be heavy and is so different to the hostility, aggression and violence associated with hostel life.

So this view into the daily routines of the men expanded my view even more. Beautiful and humanising. by @kmoeti
