Maybe the best thing the internet can do… is help us find our way back into the real world. 🫶 by @knitmapp

A physical yarn shop is so much more than a place that sells yarn. 🫶 Tag the yarn shop that gives you this experience. by @knitmapp

Seeing these numbers feels a little surreal.
But my favourite part isn’t really the numbers.

It’s knowing that somewhere, someone is opening knitmapp and discovering a yarn shop they didn’t know was there.
And maybe actually going.

That was the whole idea. 🫶

Let’s use online to make offline, real connections! by @knitmapp

Let me properly introduce myself…

Behind knitmapp, there’s just me: Chantal. A mother of two lovely kids with the love of my life, knitting every day away and loving positive vibes.

For years, I worked as a family lawyer. I cared deeply about helping people, but over time I began to feel how far a life surrounded by conflict is from who I am.

I’m someone who looks for kindness, quiet and the things that bring people together.

I didn’t leave with a perfectly worked-out plan. I only knew that I wanted to put something more positive into the world. And I knew that the fiber community I love felt like the right place to begin.

That small feeling eventually became @knitmapp.

The map is live. The first shops have joined. The event calendar grows. And honestly, I still don’t know how this will evolve.

But I’m proud that I followed it.

If you’re new here, welcome. This is where I’ll share the places, people and stories I discover while building knitmapp and finding out where yarn can lead us. 🤎 by @knitmapp

Did you know you can see yarn shops near your current location within @knitmapp? Just hit the “locate me” button and it will zoom in on the map. Easy as that. by @knitmapp

Let me be clear. This isn’t a rant against AI.

I use AI to organise my thoughts, question my ideas and improve what I make. But the first spark ✨ has to come from something real: something I saw, felt, tried or almost avoided.

So I’m choosing: fewer posts, but only honest field notes from the knitting and fiber world. We are makers, so we can do this right?!

What makes Instagram feel human to you? by @knitmapp

I love discovering yarn shops. Especially when I’m somewhere new, but an address has never been enough for me.

I want to know:
* what I’ll find there
* what makes the shop special and
* whether it will feel like my kind of place.

That’s why I started @knitmapp: a growing worldwide map of physical yarn shops and fiber events.

You can explore shops near home or while travelling, save the places you’re curious about 🤎 and keep track of the shops you’ve 👋🏾 visited.

There are no ratings or rankings, because I don’t believe there is one “best” yarn shop. There is only the shop that fits what you’re looking for.

@knitmapp is still growing; one shop, one story and one discovery at a time.

This is the map I wished existed. I hope you’ll explore it with me. 🫶 by @knitmapp
