🩷 A little kindness can make a world of difference. And this beautiful news story is a wonderful reminder of just that!

We are so grateful to see Amy Roberts, Sharon Coleman, and the wonderful members of the North Georgia Knitting Guild recognized for the love, compassion, and countless hours they put into making Knitted Knockers for women in their community.

Amy has made approximately 300 Knitted Knockers since 2014, and the guild has continued to grow its efforts, surpassing its goal of 200 this year! What makes their story especially meaningful is that some of these volunteers are breast cancer survivors themselves. They understand firsthand how much a thoughtful gesture can mean during a difficult and vulnerable time.

And then there’s Lisa, whose story reminds us exactly why this work matters. Receiving her handmade Knitted Knockers after surgery brought her comfort, joy, and a little piece of herself back when she needed it most.

To Amy, Sharon, and every member of the North Georgia Knitting Guild: Thank you for sharing your time, your talents, and your hearts. Your kindness reaches far beyond the stitches, reminding women that they are cared for, supported, and never alone.

🩷 160 pairs of Knitted Knockers. 150 bras. And a whole lot of hope traveling across the world. 🌍🧶🇪🇹

In Harar, Ethiopia, women recovering from breast cancer surgery have faced a challenge many of us may take for granted: access to bras and breast prostheses to help them feel comfortable and confident in their own bodies.

In 2023, volunteer Allison J. and her Minnesota-based group, sponsored by the Ali Birra Foundation, visited the Honorable Dr. Artist Ali Birra Memorial Cancer Treatment Center. What they discovered inspired a beautiful effort to help.

💗 Knitted Knockers provided 160 pairs of free, handmade breast prostheses, and their local community contributed 150 bras. In 2024, half of those donations made the journey to Ethiopia, where they were warmly welcomed and put to immediate use by women receiving care at the cancer center.

And the journey isn’t over! This December, Allison’s group will bring the remaining donations to Harar, along with additional Knitted Knockers for two other Ethiopian cities that have requested them for their breast cancer patients.

For women returning to their families and rural communities after treatment, these simple gifts offer more than physical comfort. They provide dignity, confidence, and a little help feeling like themselves again. Best of all, they come at no cost to the women who need them.

We are deeply grateful to Allison and her dedicated group for carrying our mission across the world and helping more women experience the comfort and confidence they deserve. Every stitch truly can make a difference! 🩷

Amy R. is helping make those connections happen! She recently attended a local Chamber of Commerce event where volunteers were preparing holiday care bags for local hospital cancer departments. Along with chemo caps, plush blankets, and cozy socks, the bags will now include information about Knitted Knockers!
Amy hosted a table to introduce attendees to our soft, handmade breast prostheses, which are available free of charge to women after breast surgery.

Five years cancer-free, newly 56, and looking ahead to reconstruction next year—after knee replacements, of course! Nanci has so much to look forward to. 💗

She also remembers the uncertainty of finding something comfortable to wear after cancer treatment. Her oncologist told her about Knitted Knockers, but the professional prosthetics she tried first felt too big and heavy for her body. They weren’t comfortable, and she felt self-conscious in her clothes.

Then her Knitted Knockers arrived. 💌

“They were beautiful! I couldn’t wait to try them on!”

“Knitted Knockers have been a blessing. They have given me confidence to wear outfits without feeling self-conscious or disappointed because the tops don’t fit well. The soft yarn is awesome.”

She believes everyone affected by cancer should have access to a comfortable breast prosthesis—whether or not they have insurance coverage for professional options. She especially appreciates that Knitted Knockers are available to anyone and can be customized by size and color.
