Running an ultramarathon every day meant having to focus completely on the task at hand, the run, as well as the other very important things in my life: family & work. I had little time for anything else. Because of that I decided not to do any media other than the Trail Runner article back in February. Tuning out everything that was non-essential was part of my coping mechanism when pushing hard each day. I allowed myself to immerse in the experience while also managing my business and coming home to make dinner for the kids and hear about their school day. Often it felt like a juggling act with a few balls dropping at any given time, but I managed for the entire 200 days. When Jason at the WSJ reached out last week, I agreed to an interview and the article just came out yesterday. I hope to be able to share my journey, now that I’m done with the streak, in the coming weeks and months and I’m honored to be featured in this top notch publication! Link in bio to the article. A big thank you to Jason Gay of the WSJ, he’s a great interviewer & writer and he captured the journey in a fun way. I have mixed feeling about sharing my life and adventures, it can be difficult to share such intimate parts of myself, my life and my family. Sharing my motivations and my thoughts comes naturally to me as I love writing but I also love doing what I do low-key. I don’t like being the center of attention, or, at least it doesn’t come naturally to me. I appreciate all of YOU and I was blown away by the overwhelming positive response to my daily musings, struggles and growth. This outlet always felt like a safe place to let my thoughts out. All of your stories of your running journey, your encouragement and kindness truly touched me day after day. I’m not going anywhere— I’ll keep sharing my journey and I’ll keep being motivated by YOURS so please keep commenting and let me know about your running journey. I’d love to hear about anyone else doing a running streak. Tell me your daily minimum and what motivates you each day! Again, a deep thank you for your support, love and shares. https://www.wsj.com/sports/candice-burt-ultra-marathon-200-days-7dab983b by @runcandicerun

"How did you keep going when you wanted to stop?" People asked me those first 100 days of the world record runs. "I never wanted to stop," I answered. On November 5, before the leaves had fallen from the Cottonwood that line my favorite trail in Boulder, Colorado, before they had turned orange and yellow, before snow covered the landscape day after day, I set out on an open-ended challenge to do as many consecutive 50ks as possible. Little did I know at that time that I did not have a limit, that my body would not break, but that it would breakthrough. This morning I figured I’d write a quick post about finishing the world record for my website candiceburt.com but a quick post turned into a deep look at the record, my motivations, suffering, beauty and why insanity is important to further humanity. You can read it at the link in my bio or candiceburt.com - I hope you enjoy ❤️‍🔥Photo is from the Finishline of the HURT 100 on day 72 taken by Mikey Brown @hawaiisportsphotography by @runcandicerun

3 years ago! Happy World Record Anniversary ❤️💪🎉 it was May 23!Here’s some of what I wrote right after I finished 200 ultramarathons in 200 days:As the pain came on slowly, so did it leave. Just barely less pain at first, enough that I allowed myself to hope that I could eventually be pain free. Once that pain was gone though, other pain came. It was as if pain would just move around and settle somewhere in my right leg. I wanted to finish the streak and set a world record on my own terms, without injury, but I wasn’t sure if it was possible. “How did you keep going when you wanted to stop?” People asked me those first 100 days of the world record runs. “I never wanted to stop,” I answered. As the HURT 100 mile race approached in January, my body became stronger and I only had lingering achilles and pelvis pain, both which were manageable. After the race and some serious post-race soreness from the intense climbs and descents, I had my fastest month yet in February, just as I was hitting 100 days. The second set of 100 days was to be much harder mentally as I entered a nearly 100 days of doldrums and a mental jail cell. The doldrums were as if I was a sailboat in the middle of the sea with no wind. I couldn’t see the land, I was adrift and day after day it seems as though progress yielded nothing. Every day I still had to start anew with another 50k. The runs felt long and boring and many days I struggled with fatigue. Yet, every day I found beauty in the struggle. Suffering is not without beauty. Not a day went by when I didn’t slather my feet in Aquaphor, pull on my compression socks, fold them down to my ankles, pull on a pair of bright Nike Alphafly all while sipping coffee to head out the door for 200 days in a row. For no less than an entire 50k run. Whether it was a Monday, Saturday, Thanksgiving, Christmas, or I was flying to Hawaii to race the HURT 100. I ran. Often I’d get up very early so as to finish early enough to celebrate the holiday or special occasion, or to catch a plane on my way to Hawaii, or to conquer the snow or sub zero temps. It’s not all forward momentum. Many of you have followed my hamstring rehabilitation from last fall through this spring. The last couple of weeks, things had finally been feeling better. I even landed on the podium in two gravel bike races over the last two weekends, which felt like a sign that things were moving in the right direction. With training for the Tahoe Rim Trail 100 and Nolan’s 14 starting to ramp up, I joined my friend Sarah for her birthday run.Less than a tenth of a mile into the run, I tripped. As I’ve done countless times before. But this time my right leg shot forward to catch me and I felt searing pain and a pop.I knew immediately something wasn’t right. Walking was difficult. Swelling appeared behind my knee almost immediately, and the pain at my sit bone where the hamstring attaches was intense. I was terrified I had seriously torn it.The frustrating part is that I ran HURT 100 in pain in January. I’ve spent months rehabbing this injury. PT since October. PRP in February. Somehow one weird trip seemed to do more damage than hundreds of miles of running.I went to bed feeling pretty defeated. But this morning when I limped downstairs, things felt a little better. A little less pain. A little more range of motion. I’m still not moving normally, but I’m hopeful it may not be as bad as I feared. For now, there’s not much to do except wait, see what happens, and try not to get too far ahead of myself. Yesterday I was imagining the worst. Today I’m trying to stay present with trusting my body’s process. It’s working to get better, I just have to try to stay out of the way 😊 For all of you injured right now, I feel you! This hamstring rehabilitation has been way longer than I hoped. We will get through this ❤️‍🩹🥰PS- the June 14 Tahoe 100k closes tonight! Register asap to run with us in a couple weeks. It’s an awesome course, we have great swag, live tracking. Want to lock in 2027? Triple Crown of 200s & Grand Slam close tonight! Registering for the series gives you entry without going through lotteries & big discounts. Successful business trip at @geminiadventures Wild Horse Gravel last weekend. @runcandicerun was 3rd woman in the 65-mile bike race on Saturday, landing on the podium in her second cycling event! She even won some prize money. Does that make her a pro?!I took the win at the half marathon on Sunday. Fun to tackle these events and clean up together 🐎 ❤️ by @runcandicerun

Fun day at the brand new Farmstand 50 Miler gravel bike race. Flat, fast, and a lot of power needed to stay in the mix. Ended up on the women’s overall podium and had an absolute blast pushing hard for a couple hours. Big thanks to @grassrootsgravel for putting on such a great event. This style of racing is so different from ultrarunning. Lots of surges, pack dynamics, drafting, pulling, positioning, and sustained power. I’m learning a ton every time I race. Thanks to everyone I rode with today. Thanks to my partner and coach @adamkholz @forgeperformancecoach with the race strategy! I stayed aero most the race 🌞🙂Also huge thanks to @never.second for fueling me. I used gels, but mostly the C30 drink mix, quick, easy, and super effective during high effort riding. My derailleur was pretty bent, so shifting was rough all race. I had a small wipeout a few months ago and I think it must’ve gotten tweaked again recently. Still figuring out all the mechanical side of gravel riding too 🫣 There’s a lot to this sport. Huge thank you to the volunteers and organizers. Top notch event through and through, and honestly giving me some great ideas for my own trail races. by @runcandicerun

That was fun! 65 miles of gravel racing out of De Beque, Colorado with @geminiadventures, what a blast. Super well organized, well marked, tough, technical, and strong competition. Nice job Reed & crew! Thank you so much to all the volunteers! You revived us on a HOT day. This was my second gravel race (ever) last one was right after foot surgery in 2024. Thank you @adamkholz for cheering me on and encouraging me. I may not have turned you into an ultrarunner yet, but you might be turning me into a cyclist. Need coaching? Check out Adam’s coaching, I can vouch for his ability to get you ready for your next endurance event: @forgeperformancecoach 🏃‍♀️ 🏊‍♀️ 🚴‍♀️ 🥳It’s been 2 years since I broke my pelvis biking, and this finally felt like I’m able to really let go on the downhills again and start to fly. For a long time there was a lot of fear after the accident, I couldn’t stop seeing myself slamming into the cement. It’s been empowering to not only push myself on technical gravel, double track, steep climbs and descents, but to actually race instead of just survive the distance. Though to be fair, I went into this one mostly just wanting to have fun since I’ve been cycling more as my hamstring heals from tears and tendonosis. Thankfully, even with the hamstring pain, biking feels good right now… running still hurts/feels awkward. Running is fun, but biking (not roads, but trails and gravel) is not only challenging, it’s really, really fun. Excited to do more!I carried a bunch of @never.second gels and used them for the entire race. Worked like a charm! by @runcandicerun

IT’S BACK! 🔥🏔️ The full Tahoe 200 circumnavigation of Lake Tahoe through the Sierra Nevada mountains returns this year!Next month, nearly 300 runners will start at Heavenly Resort and run through 3 national forests, crossing rugged alpine terrain as they fully circle the largest alpine lake in the USA.After 5 years of Caldor Fire restoration work on the west side of the course (6 including the COVID cancellation year), runners will once again complete the entire loop on trail around Lake Tahoe. Grateful for all the agencies work on restoration and prioritizing the full loop permits. Hands down the most epic and iconic 200-mile route in the world! Lake Tahoe location and trails are unmatched. There’s a reason this location is world class. I’m so excited it is back! I created this race to be the full loop around Lake Tahoe back in 2013 and it’s been incredibly hard, frustrating and slow to get the original route back. Huge kudos to my team at @destinationtrailraces for all their hard work leading up to this year’s race, and for the extra effort to get the route changed back this final month before the race. And the best part… the full loop is officially back moving forward, next year and beyond. 🔥 you can signup for the triple crown of 200s or the Grand slam now until May 31 - go to DestinationTrailrun.com. The Tahoe 200 lottery for 2027 opens in June! by @runcandicerun

Happy Mother’s Day to all the moms out there!I’m not usually much for celebrating holidays, but my mom means the world to me. I’m so grateful for the love, life, sacrifices, and time she’s given me. Our relationship has evolved in so many ways over the years, and I love where it is now and how much we’ve both grown.Mom, thank you for showing me how to support, love, and care for my own children. It’s been such a wonderful, rewarding, and challenging journey to watch my kids grow up! Without your love & the lessons I’ve learned form you, I don’t know how I would have gotten through all the trials and tribulations of life. It definitely hasn’t been easy. You gave me my love of adventure, my athleticism, and my connection to nature. I often think about how pioneering you were for your time, parachuting for fun and becoming one of the rare first 9 female police officers in Seattle back in 1976. Thank you for being you ❤️ love you too Dad 🤗 by @runcandicerun
