How is it possible that I could be standing here today with a partial head covering, wearing pants, and saying Jewish blessings while making homemade challah bread?A few years ago, I thought it was impossible to live a Jewish life that I truly felt connected to. I was resentful after being forced into an Orthodox lifestyle as a child, with so many of my religious questions ignored. As I’ve gotten older, I’ve learned to observe at my own pace and to be patient with myself.It’s very hard to experience religious trauma as a child and then reconnect with Judaism as an adult with a positive, fresh mindset. Do I look a little strange wearing pants and a head covering, crying over my challahs while I pray? Definitely. But I hope my journey can show others that there’s no one structured way to do things. Taking things day by day and reconnecting with my Jewish observance through small moments has helped me grow close again to a Modern Orthodox way of living.#orthodox #jewishfamily #jewish #jewishlife by @thatrelatablejew

Did we have separate or mixed gendered dancing at our wedding? 😮We decided that at the beginning of the dancing portion of the wedding, we would have a mechitzah (division) between the men and women. During this portion we did traditional Jewish circle dancing. This way our Rabbis and more orthodox/ Hasidic friends would feel comfortable dancing with us. After the first 2 dances, we took the mechitzah down! Jacob and I knew we wanted to dance together and with our family all mixed in one circle. Since Jacob and I consider ourselves MODERN orthodox, this was the perfect compromise to make our more religious guests comfortable and for us to still dance with all our friends and family towards the end of the wedding! #jewishwedding #jewishmarriage #jewishweddings #jewishcouple #thatrelatablejew #jewish #judaism #orthodoxjewishlife #family #religion by @thatrelatablejew

Came all the way from NYC to Fenway Park for Jewish Heritage Night with the Boston Red Sox! ⚾️✡️As someone who shares my Jewish journey online, this was such a special night.
