Nantucket, you were good to us! ⚓️🌊☀️ by @kristingulino24
NYC HYROX Recap- DNF, but not Defeated 💪🔥 Friday didn’t go the way we planned. We only made it through half of our first NYC HYROX before making the decision to call it. The combination of extreme heat and humidity hit hard and sometimes the smartest move is knowing when to call it. Not every race ends with a medal or a PR. Sometimes the win is taking the lessons, experience and coming back stronger which is the plan! Thank you to the @thelyssmethod for the impeccable training and can’t wait to get back to it! Thank you to @coachcarlyburrows for finding us staring death in the eyes during our burpee broad jumps 😫and cheering us on! Nashville 12/26, we’re coming for you! 🤠🏁 Thank you for being INSIDE! by @kristingulino24

If you are a middle aged woman and you want to start building muscle for health, strength and longevity… Then I’m your girl! My page is not about DIETS and trying to shrink! My page is for the women who are hitting peri/menopause and are discovering that diets, low calorie, and only cardio aren’t working for them anymore. I’m here to show you that those things don’t work anymore and aren’t healthy mentally or physically. What does work is an emphasis on building muscle! So, if you’re looking to optimize your health contrary to what social media says works… then I’m here to show you what does work! It’s time we (women) take up space, pave the way and support each other! 🤍 by @kristingulino24
Ladies over 40….. I know we relate and have the same feelings when it comes to our health. Feeling confused about nutrition and exercise as we approach perimenopause and menopause. Should we eat low carb? Should we be running miles on end everyday? Should we ban all carbs in the pursuit of weight loss? The list goes on. I can tell you from my experience, those diet strategies DO NOT work. They are not sustainable long term. They will back fire. If we could all just get back to the basics we would be in a much better place with our physical and mental health. I went back to the basics after endless diets and a disordered eating diagnosis. The basics are what propelled my health to where it is today. I lift 4xs/week with @paragontrainingmethods I walk 6-8,000 steps a day I focus on PROTEIN rich meals. (25-35) grams per meal I include all foods/macros It isn’t anything fancy! Fancy isn’t going to get you the results you want! The BASICS are what does that. Drop a ❤️ if you agree! by @kristingulino24
What if you tried this instead of another diet…. Ladies! We have to stop making nutrition and health improvements so complicated! If you are a woman over 40 what you did when you were in your 20’s and 30’s is going to be different than what you do in your 40’s and beyond. Let’s approach our health without another failed diet and scale number focus. Can you shift your focus to how you’re feeling? Focus on getting stronger as we approach menopause? Focus on feeling energized instead of depleted from another diet? I can go on and on but I’m sure you get the point here. Here are a few underrated things to try instead of another diet: 🎉Get outside and WALK! 🎉Pick up some weights! 🎉Eat more protein! 🎉Get 7-8 hours quality sleep! 🎉Ditch the diet rules! Make this the year you say NO to another diet!! Drop a ❤️ below if you will say NO to diets and try even just one of these tips! by @kristingulino24
What if…. 🌟We started looking at our workouts as way to get and stay healthy, strong and resilient to injury instead of just burning calories and getting skinny? 🌟WHAT IF… we stopped using our workouts as punishment for the food we ate and workout to build muscle, confidence, release stress, and strong bones etc.! 🌟WHAT IF…. We stopped eating like birds to just lose weight at all costs and started eating ENOUGH to support our bodies and activity. 🌟WHAT IF… we stopped looking for quick fixes, 30 day challenges, 1200 calorie diets that always lead us to feeling like a failure. Chasing skinny IMO always comes at a cost both physically and mentally. What if we started focusing on supporting our bodies for the long term and for better QUALITY of life. Lifting weights and getting STRONG will provide that foundation. Chasing strong takes time. Most give up bc they aren’t seeing results right away. But, I promise you changes are happening and if you gave yourself just 1 year, you would be surprised in so many ways. Let’s flip the script ladies! STRONG>SKINNY Drop a ❤️ if you want to start getting strong with me! by @kristingulino24
What if…. Instead of giving yourself 30 days you gave yourself 1 year? As an active 48 year old woman I stopped chasing skinny. I stopped undereating I jumped off the cardio express train (yes, cardio is good for you, but I was abusing it) I stopped looking at health and fitness as a number on the scale. I stopped searching for the next random 30 day quick fix. I started lifting weights 4 days a week following a progressive overload program. Random IG workouts will only give you random results 👎🏻. I started to chase a feeling. I started to chase STRONG 💪🏻. I started eating ENOUGH. I started walking daily. I started looking at this whole picture in YEARS instead of 30 day increments. Building muscle takes time. YEARS! You need to practice patience. Rome wasn’t built in a year. Drop a ❤️ if you’re ready to start chasing STRONG with me! by @kristingulino24
As we hit our 40’s our nutritional needs as women change. One of the biggest changes in body composition is something known as sarcopenia. The involuntary loss of muscle mass. Less muscle means greater weakness and less mobility, both of which may increase your risk of falls and fractures. Eating enough protein will reduce the impact of muscle wasting. Combining resistance training with eating adequate protein will further reduce the impact. Also, to really meet your protein intake goal, you may need to double up on the serving size! I usually eat 2 Greek yogurts for a whopping 40 grams of protein! I also have a high protein drink daily to fill in any gaps. I know most women are undereating for their protein needs and it’s one of the most important macronutrients! Drop a ❤️ if you found this post helpful! by @kristingulino24
What I did in my 30’s is now completely different as an active woman in my 40’s. In my 30’s I was undereating, doing excessive cardio and constantly punishing myself for a night out or eating a big meal. I vividly remember going out for burgers and coming home and jumping on the treadmill to burn off the burger and fries. I know a lot of you can relate to this. I was in a punishing mindset that never served me in a positive way. In my 40’s these behaviors started to really backfire. I knew there had to be a much better way to honor my health and feel my best. I learned what works best for me and I’ll share my tips here. I understand everyone is different and we have different goals, but if you are still doing what you did in your 30’s and not feeling your best, I encourage you to at least give one of these tips a try and see how you feel and start adding in another one as you start to feel more comfortable. Incorporate 3-4 days of strength training Add in some NEAT such as walking Prioritize protein aim for 25-35 grams per meal Quality sleep (I read before bed instead of scrolling or watching Netflix on my laptop) Strength training and walking are the 2 most underrated activities for women in their 40’s and beyond! Drop a ❤️ if you are willing try one of these tips! by @kristingulino24
