Another holiday afternoon spent with my dearest Bessie! 🫶🏽🌹
Story time: Bessie and I met in 2011 when I first started volunteering with Little Brothers Friends of the Elderly SF @littlebrotherssf. They are a wonderful organization that aims to relieve social isolation and loneliness among older adults in the Bay Area.

Bessie and I immediately clicked and her stories of travel (living in Shanghai, Africa, Australia, and the US) fascinated me. She planted the seed that eventually led me to moving to Australia for 2 years and backpacking throughout SE Asia for nearly 3 months.

At 90 years young now, I asked what was her secret to a long and happy life, and her response: “My independence. I try to do as many things on my own and pursue what I love”.

Over the last 15 years, I’ve learned Bessie loves:
- Fashion (she earned her fashion degree at the Art Institute and worked as a buyer for a luxury jeweler in Palo Alto)
- Cooking dumplings
- Painting and sketching animals, plants, and landscapes
- Digital color by numbers on her iPad (we did a few together)
- Tea Forte and collecting the pyramid-shaped boxes
- The Gameshow Network
- Beethoven
- Quality time with her niece, Jenny
- Admiring the hummingbirds from the balcony of her SF apartment
- Video chats with her 103 year old sister in Shanghai
- Frequent visits from all the LBFE volunteers (she says she never gets lonely because of her LBFE family)

I’m grateful to Little Brothers for weaving this special friendship into my life 🫶🏽💖

PSA: LBFE is always in need of volunteers, especially during the holiday season. If you are in the Bay Area and want to bring joy to an older adult, check the link in their bio to sign up! You just might meet your Bessie ☺️💖

First time getting all dolled up with the new “lob” called for Nicole Kidman part✌🏽💃🏽 featuring Sky as paid background 🐱

Also, the fact that Sky let me pet her without dodging my love is the most impressive part of this video 🐈‍⬛😏 Physical touch is not her love language 🤷🏽‍♀️ #iykyk
