I know I’m late, and deep down, I always knew this day would come. I was never ready for this.
I still remember the day Pasha Thankachan Chetan introduced you to me while we were watching an Argentina match. He said, “Watch out, a little long-haired boy will come on now. He plays like Maradona.”
I had no idea then that I was about to watch someone who would become such a huge part of my life. That’s where it all started. I didn’t just fall in love with you as a player, I fell in love with football because of you. Every single time you wore that Argentina jersey, it gave me chills. And now, trying to accept that I won’t see you wearing those colors on the pitch again. But your journey was never just about football.
You taught us how to lose. You taught us how to fall and still find the strength to get back up. You taught us that failure doesn’t define us and that sometimes the greatest victories come after the most painful heartbreaks. You taught us to believe when the whole world doubts us. Again and again, you were questioned. Again and again, you failed. Again and again, you came back stronger. And in the end, you achieved everything you ever dreamed of. 🏆
Your journey with the Argentine national team feels like a movie, full of heartbreak, criticism, tears, pain, hope, and finally, the happiest moments of all. It’s not just a football story; it’s a lesson for every generation that comes after us.
And I feel incredibly blessed that I got to witness it. I grew up watching you. I grew up celebrating your goals, defending you in arguments, crying after defeats, and losing my mind with happiness after victories. Somewhere along the way, you stopped being just my favorite footballer—you became my idol.
Leo, thank you. Thank you for giving me a lifetime of memories. Thank you for the tears, the goosebumps, and the moments of pure happiness that words will never fully describe. Most importantly, thank you for making me fall in love with this beautiful game.
And thank you for still playing football. Because honestly, I’m not ready to say goodbye yet. 🐐🫠🤍
