If you’d been in my Fall Intro Photojournalism class over the last 8 or so years, you’d have seen me sigh wistfully as i showed a slide of all the other camera costumes I’ve seen people make, and heard me promise that one day I’ll make my own.

This year i FINALLY did it. And it was so fun! Happy @wildrumpusathens experience.

(Tech aspects: Nikon Z6iii with battery grip mounted on a small tripod strapped to me. HDMI cord to a computer monitor mounted on an Alice frame backpack. Monitor powered by a Greenworks 80v battery and inverter. Cable release wired to the fake shutter button. Godox speedlite wired to the shoe and boosted with an external battery pack. My goal was to have good weight distribution and a self-contained camera setup so the cardboard camera shell could just sit on top of it all. Bitly QR code sends people to a Google Drive folder where i upload the photos afterwards for free access)

(Bonus photos/video from @markejohnson from Friday’s test run and Thursday with my annual class teaching outfit feat. the coolest pin made by former student @wschulz.photo !!) by @kyserl

The clock tower at the Georgia National Fairgrounds is reflected in the sunglasses of Devon Dalton, from Eden Prairie, Minnesota, as he competes in the second annual corn dog eating competition at the Georgia National Fair in Perry, Georgia on Saturday, October 17, 2026. by @kyserl

We unfortunately had to cancel the UGA Photojournalism at the Fair workshop due to the impending weather, but i was already almost to the fairgrounds when we made the decision…so i went ahead in for a bit to see the Food Fight competition judging!

Judges Sophia Wootten, Miss Georgia 2026, and Savannah Louie, winner of Survivor 49 and host of ATL Live, taste-test the Dragon’s Breath entry from TBG Group Holdings Inc.

Jeff Wobig and Mikala Funk of The Donut Family prepare to present their entry: Star Spangled White Chocolate Raspberry Mini Donuts.

Judge Maggie Schuyler, President and CEO of the Perry Area Chamber of Commerce, records herself trying the Birria Street Taco Pizza entry from Pizza Emporium / Swift Concessions.

Griffin Gillette of Polar Bear Ice Cream presents his Ying Yang Grapes entry while judge Kori Foy, social influencer, looks on.

Had to grab at least one fair food item before heading back to Athens!! The Peach Cobbler Corn Dog did not disappoint. 10/10 would recommend. by @kyserl

Great week in the Czech Republic! Spent most of my time in Brno at the ECREA conference, presenting two projects, catching up with colleagues and friends, making new research connections, seeing sights, eating great food, and riding lots of trams. And managed to squeeze in some quality time in Prague 😁🇨🇿 by @kyserl

First day of class for my eighth year teaching at UGA!! Time flies, y’all.

It’s also been, um, *twenty-five* years since my first day of class as a freshman at Murray State University so enjoy this bonus photo of August 2001 Kyser all settled in to his room at Hester Residential College. by @kyserl

Great visit to NOLA for AEJMC 2026! Especially proud of recent MA grad @felixscheyer, who chatted with a steady stream of folks about our project that he’s been leading! by @kyserl

My undergrad research mentee Stella Turner was selected for the summer research fellowship with the UGA Center for Undergraduate Research Opportunities and today was the Final Forum where the fellows presented what they’ve been working on. #ProudProf moment watching her excellent presentation on her music journalism research! by @kyserl
