The Electrolit U.S. Headquarters recently won the AIA Houston 2026 Design Award for Interior Architecture! An architecture team composed of Schaum Architects, Jesús Vassallo, and Guadalajara-based architect Luis Aldrete collaborated on the U.S. headquarters for the Mexican beverage brand. The structure they chose to begin their journey in Houston is a low-slung, formerly industrial Spanish Revival slab located on the banks of Buffalo Bayou. Working with Guadalajara-based interior designers, Aagnes, the objective was to create a contemporary workspace imbued with the character of residential architecture, balancing the existing building’s industrial nature with a warm palette of natural materials reminiscent of Mexican living. The proposal consists of a series of volumetric, wooden boxes that house smaller programs and inhabit the industrial space as sculptures, creating and lending proportion to the spaces around them. Diffused natural light from glass-block windows is supplemented by existing skylights throughout the space. The result is a relaxed and subdued atmosphere that stands in opposition to the stridence of contemporary corporate vernacular.
