✨ Launching Friday, November 25th ♥️ ✨

The second book in the series of Ladybug, Can I Pet Ladybug, aims to introduce children to the concept of consent and personal space. These ideas are wrapped in a story about petting a scared dog named Ladybug. The book reminds everyone that not all dogs enjoy being petted and some may need extra space. The book also allows children to reflect on their actions and the importance of paying attention to a dog's body language when approaching them.

This book will take you for a walk with Ladybug and her family. On the walk, Ladybug sees a boy named Yash who thinks Ladybug is a cute dog! Read the book to find out if Yash gets to pet Ladybug!

Special thanks to @fetching.n.fostering @yinyangofslobber @thegsdbu @mishka_the_rescue_dog @kadkidsarounddogs for providing their feedback in helping me fine-tuning the book

And of course my lovely illustrator @saad.vivian who goes above and beyond for my vision for the book, thank you Vivian! by @ladybugtherescue

The journey of guilt and healing ✨

When I first met Kiwi, I was so excited. She is so affectionate. It is indeed one of her best qualities. She included herself in the family like she always belonged here. I am so happy to give and receive love from her.

Feeling guilty to bring another dog home was one of the biggest reasons I didn’t share Kiwi on my page as soon as we adopted her. I feel that guilt somewhere still but I don’t regret adopting Kiwi even for a second. She has brought me a new purpose to live and work towards. She is giving me an opportunity to heal and she is allowing us to love again.

I am happy that I can let her help me heal because when we let Ladybug go… I know she was at ease, but I took that pain from her because I didn’t want her to suffer and I wanted to free her but that was obviously at the cost of not having her around. I am happy that I didn’t wait too long and I am so happy that Kiwi came to our rescue ❤️‍🩹

Making room for more love 💕 🧿 by @ladybugtherescue

Little responsibilities, big confidence, but always with adult supervision!

The flexi leash lets N feel involved and independent, while I hold Kiwi’s actual leash so I can maintain control if needed. N gets to practise walking beside Kiwi, holding the leash, and taking part in our routine, without being responsible for Kiwi’s safety!!

He truly doesn’t need to do everything independently to feel independent 🤍🧿

PS, this is also a secret to keeping your toddler beside you on a dog walk: just convince them they’re in charge!

Last week, N’s daycare told me that N tells everyone Kiwi is his best friend.

That one sentence made me so emotional…in the happiest way. There’s something so special about knowing your child’s best friend is a dog. It makes me reflect on how connection doesn’t always need words. My child doesn’t need conversation or validation in the way we often think, just presence, comfort, and quiet companionship.
Kiwi doesn’t talk back. She simply is….giving him space, occasionally leaning in with affection, gently weaving herself into his world. And somehow, that’s more than enough.

It makes me realize what a gift this is. To grow up alongside a dog. To learn love that is steady, nonjudgmental, and always there, whether it’s a hard moment or a joyful one.
Dogs really are something special. The way they greet us, stand by us, and love without conditions… it feels like a privilege to experience.

I feel so grateful that my child gets to have this kind of friendship by @ladybugtherescue

I cried today. I looked through photos and videos and remembered just how much joy Ladybug brought into our lives. It has been FOUR long years without my Ladybug 🤍

She was such a beautiful part of my story.

N never got to meet her, but every time he sees her picture, whether in our hallway or on my phone, he recognizes her and says her name out loud. That means everything to me. Ladybug has shaped who I am in so many ways, and it shows in how I move through life now. I see dogs differently, I love differently. And I am so incredibly proud that my little one knows her, that he carries a piece of her through us. It’s a testament to how deeply she is still part of our lives, even without her physical presence.

To have been loved by Ladybug was one of the greatest honours of my life. I love you so much, and I miss you every single day. I hope doggie heaven is full of cheese today, and that somehow, you can still feel the warmth of my hugs. by @ladybugtherescue

If you wouldn’t give someone a toddler without asking, don’t give them a puppy, kitten, or rabbit without some serious conversations about responsibility and lifestyle changes first.

Ontario SPCA reports a 17% increase in surrender requests in just one year, mostly from families who simply can’t care for their animals anymore
.
According to PETA, in the U.S. alone, more than 6 million animals enter shelters every year, and by early January many of the animals surrendered are those that were given as ‘presents’ just weeks earlier.
