[scorpion deep] Presenting the print-version of this piece I did for @litpinsandco ! The original piece will be the hardcover art for their special edition release of Scorpion Deep by @paperfury

This version is for their print run, and features a lot more *red*. It is also a great companion piece to the paintings for Hazelthorn and Don’t Let the Forest In.

They’re both having the time of their livesssss!

And we’re back! This information should be final, at least until summer 2027.

As someone who has never really wanted or needed a lot of payment for my work, it is hard for me to increase my prices. However, many people from several book-related industries approached me earlier this year and recommended I increase my prices for the amount of work and quality I am producing. I didn’t raise them quite to where they recommended; I hope these fees are still approachable to creators and authors from many backgrounds.

I am also willing to simplify concepts to work with smaller budgets, if the project is right.

My art is my only income now, and while I am so lucky and fortunate to have all of the support, and the chance to be an artist full-time (who actually gets to do that???) I also have to start investing in my future as well, and perhaps even get a real savings account someday! Wouldn’t that be nice! :)

I am sorry for anyone who may be priced out of working with me as my career continues to grow. It actually keeps me up at night sometimes, if you can believe it. Art has always been such a core part of my life. I wish I could be the one to accept every commission and make everyone happy, and make your characters and ideas come to life for you.

Be well and happy. <3

ART REVEAL!!! Andrew and Thomas from Don’t Let The Forest In and i am FERAL IN LOVE WITH THIS ART 😭 @ladyeruart has created pure magic and i’m losing my mind over the amount of gorgeous detail. the moss, the ribs entwined, Andrew’s fingers hooked in Thomas’s rib bones, the freckles, the way they are built into each other.

it’s perfection i’m beyond obsessed

“For a vicious moment, Andrew thought about slipping his fingers into Thomas’s cut. Taking hold of his rib and breaking it. Pulling the soft crumbling bone from his chest and sewing it into his own. They’d be forever together, rib against rib, fused in gore and bone and adoration.”

Don’t Let The Forest In is out in paperback on January 27th with vine stencilled edges and bonus content and let me just say you need it 🍄‍🟫🍂 don’t forget to preorder!!!

cannot get over how lucky i am to have met @ladyeruart this year and ridiculously grateful for the incredible pieces she’s done for my books. every single one is divine. ps pls go give her a follow!!! by @ladyeruart

Have you ever seen such love?

I am pleased to finally reveal this painting of Andrew and Thomas that dripped from my soul! It was created in collaboration with @litpinsandco for their new line of bookish merch.

Everyone knows I’m a massive fan of @paperfury , so it’s no surprise I enjoyed every minute of painting this. This story and these boys are so incredibly precious to me. We are all a little bit overgrown and wretched on the inside, but that doesn’t mean it can’t be beautiful.

SCORPION DEEP ART REVEAL!! obsessed and entranced by this godtier art of Jonathan and his eldritch sea god painted by @ladyeruart. i’m feral, i’m speechless. every single piece of art Dani does for me is pure magic and this one is just so unfathomably gorgeous.

i’m obsessed with the details—the way Scorpion looks like a god, his HAIR, the fusing with the sea, the pop of visceral red, the claws, the scales, the obsession, jonathan just happy to be here.

only 86 days until SCORPION DEEP releases and you can preørder at any bookstore!! ps you can also get prints of this in @ladyeruart’s store (see her biø).

“He can feel it in the way Scorpion still holds him by the throat, careful and reverent, that he will not let go of Jonathan.
He will never let go.”

[Rider of Dragons] Here is the second endpaper and my biggest dragon painting to date! Since the dragon was featured so front and center, I experimented a lot with different brushes and textures, and overall I am very pleased with the result!

This is for @thelockedlibrary ‘s special Forbidden Wing release of Rider of Dragons by @aamna_qureshi .

I always appreciate the opportunity to learn, and I definitely learned a lot about dragons in these paintings!

Also, who doesn’t love a romantic moon-framed moment?

Wynter is returning 🤭🤭❄️🩵

If you haven’t preorders make sure you do ASAP!! You don’t want to miss the second installment in the Ice Queen series, which releases on December 22nd!!

[Hazelthorn] who is really the thief? 😉

Pleased to show this piece I made for @litpinsandco ! This will be offered in their August merch drop.

I love leaning into the red and lovely violence of these two in this piece. Hazelthorn is actually my favorite of @paperfury ‘s books, so any chance I get to draw hungry Evander’s wild hair, I’m going to take it!

Thanks, as always, for the love.

“The greenhouse sinks, or perhaps the world rises, until all that’s left is their twisted cairn of roots and soil, aglow with the light of blood and lilies.”

it’s so hard for me not to get sappy when it comes to anything regarding this book.

last year, i approached @ladyeruart to do the cover for what would have been julian and van’s debut and i was ECSTATIC when she replied because she was #1 on my list of cover artists!! well, long story short, this industry is unpredictable, plans had to change, and i’m glad they did because these boys are not quite ready for you yet. HOWEVER, dani was still on board to do a painting and i couldn’t have asked for a more beautiful outcome.

so huge, huge thank you to @ladyeruart for bringing julian and van to life 🥹 i am THRILLED that i got to work with one of my absolute favorite artists, who not only is a lovely human being but who took the time to beta read AND ended up falling for these two just as much as i have. it’s honestly surreal getting to see this painting exist.

(THE LILIES!!!!! YOu gUYS AAAAHHH van’s hAND on julian’s FACE i’m going to fling myself into the sun i am so normal rn)

ART REVEAL!! I’m so excited to finally share this dreamy art by @ladyeruart of Elowen and Arden from “Beneath the Hawthorn Tree.”

Her red dress! The white blossoms in her hair vs the red in the hawthorn tree! The red thread of destruction in his hand! 😭😍 I love.

A tale as old as time—lovers who quietly drift apart because they want different things.

This perfect print is included in all bundles for the Kickstarter, launching Sep 15! FOUR MORE DAYS!

[An Ember in the Ashes] I’m excited to finally show off the bookmarks I designed for @fairyloot earlier this year! The book is by @sabaatahir and I loved the designs of the characters and getting the chance to work with a taller, thinner composition. I also referenced actual Roman mosaic work for the backgrounds, which was a fun throwback to when I briefly studied Greek and Roman art history!

If you’re not interested in my early morning musings, you can stop reading here!

(Disclaimer: this is not about Fairyloot or this project)

Okay, so something that’s been on my mind recently is the reader-client-artist triangle. I’ve been doing commercial work for about a year and a half now, and there have been both good and bad times as I get more experience in this beautiful creative industry. So, here’s some transparency.

It’s true, most book art would be more accurate if the artists were able to read each book they create for, and ideally even chat with the author. Realistically, this isn’t always feasible. Many clients do offer their books or ARCs for me to read, and one bookbox even offered to pay me for the time spent reading it. I know it may seem like a scam, or overkill, to think about paying an artist to read (especially when the books are often so great!) but for a lot of artists, there is only so much time in the day, and reading can hop the line between relaxation and homework pretty quickly. I try to read what I can. It *does* help with imagining the story and getting a good idea for the design.

But it isn’t always possible, and a majority of the time an artist has to work with the brief they’re given. Many times I have had to spend hours writing up emails asking for more information about characters, historical references, and so on. Some of my briefs, even by huge book box clients, have been ONE SENTENCE LONG. Some briefs have referenced scenes in the book that do not exist. And artists are definitely part of a team, and these things happen! Collaboration is part of the fun. By the end of the piece, many eyes have been on it, including the author’s. Any mistakes were not intentional.
