New work in progress. An image I wanted to weave while at Praxis but didn’t have time for a third piece. The first 24” of this cartoon are solid black.

Join us for our CQ abundance opening reception this evening from 6-9 pm! 💚 Refreshments, snacks and ice cream from Zack’s @zacks.icecream will be provided.

This national exhibition juried by Jasper A. Sanchez @jasper_a_sanchez features 22 artists across mediums who see beyond a world that is given. In the context of this show, queer abundance is at once proclamation and a tool for liberation. It allures, celebrates and disorients, holding at the seams both grief and love.

All month long we will host related offerings, including an arts market on June 14 - where a host of LGBTQIA+ vendors will feature handmade art and adornments for the body and home - and an artist panel on June 25 with some of the minds behind the exhibition. We can’t wait to see you soon!

Artist credits, in order of appearance:
Laicee Blackwell @laiceeblackwell, “Revelry”
Chase Spearance @summer_self_art, former small works artist and organizer for our CQ art market
Andi Pickler @pickler_art, “Courtesy Nails at the Bush”

1 academic year down. Now it’s a summer full of projects. #studiotech #apsuartanddesign #artschool #apsucollegeofartsandletters by @laiceeblackwell

Laicee Blackwell’s woven works unfold as intimate, tactile narratives, where textile becomes an accomplice in a deeply personal act of reconstruction. Using dyed threads, frayed edges, and layered imagery, Blackwell navigates a space between concealment and revelation, reassembled through the looms grid that allows humor to surface as a quiet but essential tool of healing. Blackwell’s practice is rooted in a queer exploration of self and lineage, constructing an imagined history that is as much about absence as it is about presence. These works speak to a longing for belonging while acknowledging the persistent feeling of existing in communities and broader social frameworks.

Another clip from my visit to #bereacollege to visit @jesseesatt. This is the only clip I have from the weaving studio. Featuring Mr. Jenkins the countermarch loom. #weavingstudio #weaving #weavingartist by @laiceeblackwell

Had to take a moment to rethread the warp through a new reed and fix an error in the heddles.

Feeling slow and out of practice dressing a loom this way.
