“Legacy is not what you inherit, it’s what you build.” - Shirley Barber James, C’68 And I’m so, so proud of what I’ve built. Thank you, Spelman, for taking a chance on a girl from rural Mississippi and allowing me to blossom into the most beautiful version of myself. I am forever indebted. Laila I. tl;dr - 🦓 This is a super late post, but I’d be remiss if I didn’t acknowledge today as Rare Disease Day! This is my 7th Rare Disease Day, and I’m coming up on 8 years since my original diagnosis! (No, I can’t believe it either…when I tell you time FLIES!) Between beginning this journey as a 12 year old to opening a new chapter of it as a 20 year old, I am simply blessed and highly favored. I cannot be more thankful for God’s endless grace and mercy, my support system always having my back, and everyone I’ve come into contact with throughout my life for impacting me. Although life with a rare disease is not easy, I live a life and am creating a legacy that I am proud of, I do the things that I enjoy and have always dreamed of doing, and I get to learn and grow as a person surrounded by people that love me. I am blessed, and I am grateful. 🤍 I really encourage everyone to look into @rarediseasedayofficial (the official Instagram of the Rare Disease Day celebration and a great source of Rare Disease Awareness Resources) & @pheopara (another great resource representing my home within the rare disease community) for more information and resources for education! 🦓 love you all & thanks for everything! ✨ CW: hospital tubes on slide 5! by @lailaim22
