Last, but certainly not least of our participating artists, welcome La'la Zarei!

Lala is an Iranian-Australian artist whose practice explores identity, memory, and the migrant experience. Working across ceramics, printmaking, collage, and mixed media, she examines the emotional and cultural layers of belonging and displacement. Since moving to Australia in 2018, her work has reflected on her Middle Eastern heritage and the lived realities of women navigating shifting social and political landscapes. Lala draws from personal and historical archives to weave narratives of resilience, transformation, and connection. Her work has been featured in numerous group and solo exhibitions, offering a poignant reflection on culture, gender, and collective memory.

La'la writes:
This ongoing project responds to the transformative movement in Iran following the death of Mahsa Jina Amini. Through collaged posters inspired by vintage Iranian magazines, I honour the courage of women who have fought and fallen in the struggle for “Woman, Life, Freedom.” The work embodies both grief and hope—grief for the lives lost, and hope for liberation and change. It reclaims public space as a site of remembrance and resistance, reflecting the exhibition’s themes of care, resilience, and the many forms of motherhood. Each figure represents a collective act of nurturing freedom and preserving memory.
