Building the Dream | Episode 4: the Paint

The first thing I wanted to change in my new Granville Island Studio wasn't the lighting or the displays... it was the walls. in this episode I'm choosing a paint color convincing Andrew and Nova to help me during one of the hottest weeks of the summer and watching the space begin to feel like home.

Every studio is built one decision at a time and this was one of my first. Follow along as I transform an empty second floor Studio space into a new home for LanaBetty.

What color would you have picked?

See you in episode 5 where we tackle the lighting.

It's funny how, when you're living it, you don't realize you're building toward something.

Before I can move forward, I think the last five years deserve a proper send-off.

So much has happened. So much has changed.

I've changed.

I'm not the same person I was when I unlocked that little studio for the first time.

I'm stronger. I'm wiser. And I'm ready for what's next.

Stay tuned. 💛 by @lanabetty

Most people don’t realize that resizing a solid gold ring isn’t just “making it bigger.” ✨

For delicate 14k family heirlooms like this one, stretching the metal too far can weaken the ring over time, which is why I often choose to carefully add gold instead.

From matching the alloy and soldering the seam, to reshaping, filing, and polishing the final finish, every resize is done by hand at my Vancouver bench with the intention of making the repair feel nearly invisible.

Jewelry is deeply personal. A proper resize means your piece gets to keep being part of your everyday life, comfortably, safely, and beautifully.

Jewelry repairs like this require precision, experience, and a deep understanding of how precious metals behave under heat and pressure. Not every jeweller offers this kind of work and not every ring should be resized the same way.

If you have a treasured piece that no longer fits, send me a message. If it’s a project I can take on, I’d be honoured to help. And if it’s outside my wheelhouse, I’ll do my best to point you toward a skilled goldsmith who can. 💛

A little love letter to rhodolite garnet. 💗

Named for the Greek words meaning rose stone, rhodolite is a beautiful member of the garnet family, celebrated for its extraordinary shades of raspberry, plum, and rosy violet.

While garnets have long been associated with protection, passion, and devotion, rhodolite is often considered a symbol of self-love, compassion, and emotional strength.

A reminder that love isn't only something we give to others. It's something we deserve to offer ourselves, too.

And maybe, that's what makes this gemstone so special. Beneath its rich, romantic colour is a little reminder to lead with an open heart, embrace your own becoming, and remember that you are worthy of the love you so freely give.

A little magic, held in a gemstone. ✨

Some stones don’t need much of an introduction. ✨

This Ethiopian Welo opal absolutely glows, flashing electric green, fiery red, blue and gold as it catches the light.

Set simply, because when a stone looks like this, you let it be the whole story.

I could look at opals forever. Every tiny shift reveals something different, like carrying your own little universe on your hand.

And this one? Magic. 🔥✨

Handcrafted in my Granville Island studio.

A hidden gem on Granville Island...literally! 💎

@lanabetty’s new jewelry studio opened TODAY and I got a first look at the gems inside. Lana works with solid metals like gold, silver and brass, creating one-of-a-kind pieces using traditional goldsmithing alongside modern techniques like laser engraving and 3D printing which results in Intricate pieces with sharp, clean lines and lots of detail.

It’s a dream come true for this Vancouver jeweller to have her own space among the artists and creatives in this neighbourhood.

At my visit, Lana made me a ring stack, one of her most popular interactive jewelry experiences. She sized my finger, I chose my own gemstone (look at that green peridot!), and she made the ring right in front of me.

For Lana, jewelry is about rituals…putting on a piece you love, treating yourself, or marking a special moment. ✨

You may recognize Lana from the craft and artist market world. Now you can visit her year-round on Granville Island to shop her ready-made pieces, create your own, commission something custom, or bring in heirloom jewelry for restoration.

And YES she does engagement rings too, send this to someone as a hint ;) 💍

LanaBetty jewelry studio is officially open on Granville Island at 1526 Duranleau Street (2nd floor).

[SAVE + SHARE] Save for your next Granville Island visit and share with someone who loves shopping local. 🇨🇦
