Solo, Solo, Together is a collection of new solo dances created by artists from All Bodies Dance Project. Each work offers an intimate glimpse into the artist’s unique perspective, inviting audiences into distinct worlds. Together, these solos form a portrait of a diverse community—five individual voices sharing space, in conversation and connection. Featuring work by Susie Gray, Nico Gruzling, Lance Lim, Peggy Leung, and Old Baby, Solo, Solo, Together celebrates the strength of the individual while asking what becomes possible when we gather our singular experiences together.

March Artist Spotlight!: Lance Lim 🐦

Lance Lim is an interdisciplinary artist and a strong community member of the Downtown Eastside, carrying a strong will and impact to support the neighbourhood. He has 3 super cute animals, a fluffy dog named Maxi, a sweet cat named BMO and a gorgeous carrier pigeon named Malcolm X! Lance is always coming up with amazing ideas and social media outreaches to include the DTES neighborhood and bring more humanity and care to the members of the community. To speak more to varying generations and involve people from near and far to get in on the community. Showing that we aren’t all that different from one another. Lance has done lots of work to positively transform the community, starting with his work, The Pigeon Den Art Collective (https://www.pigeonden.com), that started with Lance as a dance student, to engage and uplift artists who grew up in the community and didn’t have much support or background in pursuing the arts. Supporting others and holding humanity for everyone, regardless of their situation. It costs nothing to be kind. He broke into songwriting to create the main anthem song for the Carnegie Housing Group. In an attempt to bring more of the community together, he began the community celebration dances. To give everyone a space to enjoy the night, each other’s presence, feel celebrated and bring everyone closer together through COVID and other hard times. With amazing turn-outs back to back more people caught wind, slowly being able to provide more amenities, prizes, care and safety measures so more people could be included. To provide for what the community clearly needed, for current members and new members coming in from foreign places.

My friends and I were invited to meet with second year university students who are designing architecture for disabled dancers who need accessible spaces. The entrance to the brand new building was not as accessible as we hoped it would be. I’m sure these rocks beside the automatic door button are against code. My friend Lance and I are both ambulatory wheelchair users, so we noticed it right away. I wonder how many people understand why this is a problem. I was late arriving because the parking lot only had accessible parking spots available that were designated for people heading to the nearby hospital so I had to park in an non accessible spot.

I've emailed my concerns to UBC.
