Most people think fitness is about looking better.

For me, it started as survival.

I grew up in Utah, raised by an incredible single mom. My brother and I experienced abuse growing up, and as a kid I felt powerless.

So I made a decision:

I would become strong enough that no one could ever hurt us again.

That decision changed my life.

My brother and I fell in love with bodybuilding. At 21, I won a natural bodybuilding competition, earned my pro card, and was offered a sponsorship.

Instead, I chose to serve a two-year mission for my church.

When I came home, I continued coaching bodybuilders until another life-changing moment.

My mom was diagnosed with colon cancer.

I became obsessed with learning everything I could about nutrition, hormones, metabolism, digestion, and long-term health. The more people I coached, the more I realized I wasn’t just helping them lose fat—I was helping them regain their energy, confidence, and future.

At 30, I stepped off the bodybuilding stage for the last time.

My definition of success had changed.

I no longer wanted to help people look their best for one day.

I wanted to help them feel their best every day.

Today I don’t measure success by trophies or six-pack abs.

I measure it by capability.

Can I keep up with my six kids?

Can I run a Spartan Race, an Ironman, or a 50K trail race?

Can I show up with energy for my wife, my faith, my clients, and the people who count on me?

That’s why I created XFIT.

The “X” represents becoming your best fitness for your season of life—not someone else’s.

Today my mission is simple:

Help men optimize their health, understand they have options before testosterone replacement therapy, and build bodies that give them the energy to live the life they were created for.

If you’ve made it this far, thanks for being here.

Six days a week in the gym after years off? I've seen how that ends.

Sore muscles, irritated joints, exhausted, and three weeks later you're wondering if this is even sustainable.

Here's what I'd have you do instead: start with three productive strength sessions a week using my 3x3 framework. Build the habit first. Add more when your body is ready for it.

"Do I need TRT to build muscle at this age?"

I get asked this a lot. The answer is no, not necessarily. Men can build muscle after 50 without testosterone replacement therapy.

Hormones can be part of the picture. If you have symptoms, talk with your doctor and get a proper medical evaluation instead of guessing. But testosterone is never a replacement for good nutrition, progressive strength training, and real recovery. Get those three dialed in first.

Are peptides made from animals or in a laboratory?

A client asked me this today, and it’s a question worth understanding.

From TB-500 and BPC-157 to tirzepatide, these compounds interact with the body in very different ways. Some have extensive human research behind them, while others are still experimental.

Understanding what they do, how they’re made, and what the science actually supports matters.

💬 Comment PEPTIDES if there’s one you’d like me to break down next.

Show up when you’re motivated.
Show up when you’re tired.
Show up when you’re happy.
Show up when life feels heavy.

If you only work out when you feel like it, your consistency will depend on your mood.

Some days, you’ll have the energy to push hard.
Other days, you’ll do a shorter workout, take a walk, or prep a meal so tomorrow feels easier.

Adjust the effort. Keep the commitment.

Every time you follow through on a difficult day, you build trust in yourself. You learn that a hard day doesn’t have to become a lost week.

That’s why I focus on helping clients build a system they can follow when life gets busy, stressful, and unpredictable.

You don’t need another Monday restart. You need a next step you can take today.

Progress over perfection by @lancekingxfit

You’re 50 years old. Is it too late to start lifting weights and actually build muscle?

Maybe you’ve noticed you’ve lost some strength, gained weight around your waist, or just don’t feel as capable as you used to.

You want to do something about it, but where do you start?

I came across this exact question on Reddit, and in this video, I explain how I would approach it if you were sitting across from me.

Before you spend months trying different workouts and diets, watch this.

We’ll talk about how often you should train, what you need to eat, how long it takes to see noticeable results, and whether testosterone should even be part of the conversation.

You may be surprised by how much progress you can make with just three well-structured workouts a week and a nutrition plan you can consistently follow.

My focus with XFIT Coaching isn’t simply helping you look better. It’s helping you build the strength and physical capacity to keep doing the things you enjoy.

If you’re 50 or older, what’s been your biggest frustration with getting back into shape?

I’d love to answer your question in an upcoming video.
