Here’s a sneak peek at the ‘Patterned Land’ exhibition catalogue! Designed by the wonderful @emma_caldow. There’s a limited edition print at the back of each book. I’m very grateful to some very talented contributors! Thanks to Ed O’Brien @eobofficial @radiohead for his reflections on the work, Rebecca Mackenzie, @rebeccamackenz author and performer for her choreographic instructions for people and paintings, Liz Treacher, @liztreacherauthor for her musings on visiting the art studio, Craig Mackay @pictii.photography for his portrait and Ewen Weatherspoon for documentation of the work. My daughter even snuck in there! Catalogue’s are available from @brownsgallery

The time has come, to say good bye to ‘Patterned Land’ by Wendy Sutherland. It has been a joy to have this work on our walls and to work with Wendy.

To mark the end of the show, we’re sharing an interview with Wendy, shot by the wonderful Janina Morgan.

We’re open until 5pm in Inverness, so there is still time to catch the show before we close tonight! See you soon.

Now that all the ‘Birds and Bards’ have flown the studio coop to @kilmorackart I’ve a space filled with unknown potential! Perhaps that’s fitting timing coming into a new Spring season…

Thank you @catalinfilip_ for the photo from yesterdays opening @kilmorackart

A massive thank you to everyone that came along and supported Lotte and I. It was a lovely afternoon and to everyone that got in touch with well wishes for the show.

Feel very lucky to share the space with Lotte and enjoyed the combination of her being down in the earth with the rocks and bones and myself being up in the sky with the birds.

Thank you @tin.man.art and @james.elwes for finding this piece its new home.

Sitting with the Mountain
Mixed media on a screen print - Unique print
70 x 50 cm (unframed)

The foundations of this piece is a screen print that had been inspired by the winter mountains of Glen Coe, their scree, deer paths and waterfalls. I looked at the print and felt a circular form calling to me from within it. A circle, I believe is such a familiar and comforting shape. Many of us take joy in these round full moons, especially winter moons, ‘cold moons’ when they get the chance to light up dark nights. Once the circle was brought out from within the print then the mountainous layers were created… hidden for years within the body of the image and now built upon abstracted forms of fallen rocks and stone. Had they always been there dormant, waiting to be found

Solstice, Tess Taylor

How again today our patron star
whose ancient vista is the long view

turns its wide brightness now and here:
Below, we loll outdoors, sing & make fire.

We build no henge
but after our swim, linger

by the pond. Dapples flicker
pine trunks by the water.

Buzz & hum & wing & song combine.
Light builds a monument to its passing.

Frogs content themselves in bullish chirps,
hoopskirt blossoms

on thimbleberries fall, peeper toads
hop, lazy—

Apex. The throaty world sings ripen.
Our grove slips past the sun’s long kiss.

We dress.
We head home in other starlight.

Our earthly time is sweetening from this

Asked my daughter to help out with my page… if you’ve a teenager in the house how can you not! She’s put this together. Handy! #scottishartist #artiststudios #highlandlandscape #paintpalette #mountainpainting #artistoninstagram by @landscape_wendy

'Precious Land'
Oil on board, 40 x 40 cm

This piece with its warm undertones seems fitting with all the wonderful yellows opening up in the spring gorse and daffodils. A little bit of earthbound sunlight.... even if there's still snow on these Sutherland hill tops!
