We often talk about the discipline, grit and endurance of athletes. But winning asks for much more.

Behind grit, sits a softness. Behind discipline is play. And with trust, comes courage.

How do you capture all of that?

Here’s our attempt, with the young athletes of @bridgesofsports from the Siddi community of Mundgod, training for a future that can take them and their communities, places.

How do you bring a story from 1983 back to life? Animation, said LastBench!

A lot of love, patience, and care went into bringing the animated sequences of Miracle in Antarctica to life.

Much of it handcrafted, with plenty of conversations, back and forth, and little details that made their way into the documentary.

And getting to celebrate that work, alongside the people who made it, was rather special.

For many of us at LastBench, this was the first time seeing the film come together on the big screen.

Here’s a little celebration of the people behind the frames. :)

Big congratulations to the team: @naj__b_ @surajsunnysumanth @pxvari @_artistic_aesthetics_ @apertureanecdotes @pradhanbanavali10 @abhi505ii @vaiomii

And a little extra love to @jobinjayan who made the evening look and feel like a film of its own.

Miracle in Antarctica: The Forgotten Story of Dakshin Gangotri is a documentary by @santoshsaligram and Sourabha Rao, supported by @rnp_foundation @ashrayahasthatrust @samagataorg by @lastbench.studio

In December 1983, geophysicist and seismologist Dr. Harsh Kumar Gupta led an expedition to establish Dakshin Gangotri, India’s first scientific base in Antarctica.

Between unforgiving weather, a blizzard, a helicopter crash, and the relentless pressure of time, the team was attempting something unprecedented.

Over four decades later, Miracle in Antarctica: The Forgotten Story of Dakshin Gangotri brings us closer to the people, decisions, and determination behind that remarkable expedition.

The film was screened at @bicblr on October 28, revisiting a remarkable chapter in India’s scientific history.

An evening of cinema, conversation, and a chance to hear Dr. Gupta revisit these experiences in person.

brb, at a shoot. by @lastbench.studio

🚨 Hiring Update: Applications for this round are now closed. We’re reviewing across all six roles and will be in touch as we go. (Swipe to know more)

🎨 These portraits are from one of our studio retreats a few years ago.

@_artistic_aesthetics_ drew everyone who was part of LastBench at the time, and we ended up printing them as little cards for the team.

We’ve always thought about our years as seasons at LastBench. This was from Season 3.

Fewer people, a slightly different studio, and a lot of things we were still learning as we went.

A few seasons later, there’s more work, more ways of making it, and more people who have left a little bit of themselves on the studio.

Feels like a good time to make room for a few more faces. 🧿

🚨 Hiring Update: A quick note for everyone who applied. We’ve started reaching out in a few cases already, and we’re still working through the rest across all six roles.

If you haven’t heard from us yet, hang in there.

We’ll close the loop with every applicants by the end of next week, whether or not we’re able to take the application forward.

Thank you again for the time, thought, and work you sent our way. by @lastbench.studio

We designed @indusaction’s first editorial-style annual report!

Inside: how social protection reaches people, from education to livelihoods. The ask was to make it modular, so any page can be lifted out and used on its own, whether in print, in a presentation, or as a post.
Here’s a sneak peek.

Part three of Water & Us: Stories Between the Extremes - our exhibit at Bangalore International Center, created in collaboration with @indiawaterportal (supported by Arghyam Foundation).

Journalists who reported the stories these pieces were based on were also with us during the exhibit - answering questions and talking about their experiences.

Here's journalist Vanshika Singh talking about the story she wrote, about Khalid, a plumber who keeps Hyderabad's water flowing with no permit, no payroll, and no record of his name.

A flower farmer's two-day margin before a marigold turns. A glacier that's been retreating for decades without ever making the news. A turtle returning each year to sand that keeps disappearing by morning.

Swipe through to see how those stories transformed into artworks made from a room full of marigolds left to rot on purpose, white crochet standing in for melted ice and a bed of river sand holding what a turtle comes back for.

Twelve pieces and three weeks of work on display at the Bangalore International Center. This was 'Water & Us: Stories Between the Extremes', created in collaboration with the @indiawaterportal (supported by Arghyam Foundation).

The idea was to take climate stories reported across India and bring them into a room where people could feel them, not just read them.

A harvest thinning with the season in Kashmir. A forest cleared in Mirzapur. Farmers in Tripura who woke up to a lake where their fields used to be. None of us had been to any of these places. So we sat with the stories until they asked something of us - keywords, colours, materials sourced from as close to the source as we could get (some, quite literally from Kashmir itself).

Swipe through to see how those stories transformed into artworks made from charcoal, beads and clay.

IES is digital public infrastructure for India's power system - connecting utilities, consumers, and devices to make electricity access faster, fairer, and more transparent

The brief: 1 main explainer film + 6 use case films.

We started at the drawing board, storyboarding all 7 films until complex processes translated effortlessly onto the screen. That was the real challenge - taking intricate systems and making them simple.

After exploring multiple style directions, we locked in a look that feels modern, eye-catching, and unmistakably "electric".

Here's a look behind the scenes at how it all came together

How do you use motion graphics to show something conceptual but explainer-worthy?

That was the challenge with India Energy Stack. We partnered with them to bring a complex idea to life - a network of digital highways connecting utilities, consumers, and devices, making India's power system faster, fairer, and more transparent.

Across 7 motion graphic films, we broke down how IES works and what it unlocks: reliable power, real transparency, new energy services, and a shift from electricity as just a cost, to electricity as an avenue for opportunity.

Swipe through for a peek at the visual language we built to explain it all.

Lok Capital wanted their 2026 annual report to reflect the humane aspects of being a fund manager. This report touches upon building community, Lok's growth and scale, and charting out a journey across a rapidly changing Indian landscape.

The visual metaphor of navigation and terrain is adapted across the report to depict this mission.
