Our heritage does not disappear when we put on a white coat or step into the operating room. It follows us in the way we care, the way we serve, and the way we show up for one another. We carry it in the languages we speak, the traditions we have, the families who helped us get here, and the little things that make us feel understood without having to explain too much. For the ones building something new without forgetting where they came from. For the firsts, the unofficial family translators, the mentors, the ones making space. And for those making the path a little easier for whoever comes next. Happy Hispanic Heritage Month! We may have different stories, and different paths. But still, so much of what we carry is shared, and we should celebrate it! We have so much to be proud of. ¡Juntos adelante! #HispanicHeritageMonth #LatinoSurgicalSociety #LatinosInMedicine LatinosInSurge by @latinosurgery
Happy National Latino Physician’s Day Latinos make up 20% of the U.S. population — but only 6.7% of active physicians identify as Hispanic or Latino. And in a national study of more than 31,000 academic surgical faculty, just 5.5% were Hispanic/Latinx. There is some progress: 10.4% of current residents identify as Hispanic or Latino. But we still have a long way to go. That’s why I don’t want to scrub in alone. When I look out at the next generation, I see future doctors, surgeons, researchers, and leaders who may not yet know that they belong in these spaces. So… who’s scrubbing in next? 👀🩺 Sources: U.S. Census Bureau, AAMC, JAMA Surgery by @latinosurgery
Today is National Latino Physician Day 💙🩺 Today, we celebrate our community: the physicians caring for our families, showing up for our patients, asking important questions, teaching, mentoring, and making space for the people coming after them. Being a Latino physician can mean carrying so many things with you: your family, your culture, your community, the people who believed in you, and sometimes the responsibility of being the first one in the room. And while Latino physicians still make up only a small part of the physician workforce in the U.S., our impact is felt every single day. To the physicians, residents, fellows, medical students, mentors, and future doctors in our community: we’re so glad you’re here. We’re proud of what you’re building, and we can’t wait to see where the next generation takes us. Today is for you and for everyone who helped you get here💙 Happy National Latino Physician Day! ¡Juntos adelante! #NationalLatinoPhysicianDay #LatinoPhysicians #LatinosInMedicine #LatinosInSurgery #LSS by @latinosurgery

Congratulations to Dr. Joseph Lopez on being recognized as a 2026 Castle Connolly Top Hispanic & Latino Doctor for the third consecutive year! Dr. Lopez is the nation's first physician fellowship-trained in both pediatric craniomaxillofacial plastic surgery and head and neck cancer surgery. Hispanic Heritage Month is a chance to recognize the people who helped make our paths possible. The families who sacrificed. The mentors who believed in us. The people who opened doors, shared their knowledge, and made space for others to follow. We honor those who came before us, those building community today, and those who are just beginning their journey. And as we move forward, we carry a responsibility with us: to keep making that path wider for the next generation. Nuestra herencia. Nuestra voz. Nuestro futuro. Happy Hispanic Heritage Month! ¡Juntos Adelante! #HispanicHeritageMonth #LatinoSurgicalSociety #LatinosInMedicine #LatinosInSurgery by @latinosurgery
