THE FIBER REVIVAL
introduces Lauren Rushing:

Lauren Rushing is a multidisciplinary artist that started with photography, and quickly learned she had a love for fibers work. By blending abstract forms and intricate textures, Lauren aims to inspire “play” in art. The importance of transformation, emotional expression, are vital in her work. What started as a way to ease personal anxieties, has now turned into a long life mission: creating art to heal and become our most playful, loving selves.

This series is all about self discovery after a dark time with mental illness. I like to call it my “bloom” series. Most of these are created with scraps of yarn ♻️ from donations or leftovers.

Just three months ago I couldn’t imagine finishing the full canvas (still have a lil work to do). Everyday choosing to create from a place of survival is not ideal when creativity is where you’ve been the past few years.

Some of these will be at @grackleartgallery for @thefiberrevival - Gallery Night 🎨🌈 September 19th. Free and open to the public 🪼

Thank u @solace.tx @botfarmofficial for being my photographer at any moment asked 📷 and for all the patience/love given through this time. 🍓 by @laurenrushingart

Spent the past 7+ months tying scraps of yarn together (second photo) to repurpose what would’ve been in a landfill, into new pieces of art.

No waste in art projects has always been a goal for me. So when @youforbia_art had this challenge, I was all in. I’m glad all these scraps of yarn could be used for this

A lot of my artworks in this collection are tufted pieces, but this is hand tufted. Lots of time went into this one. It’s been difficult creating smaller pieces, but I’m learning to enjoy more creative challenges. Learning more about myself through the process is my favorite thing about creating.

This is titled “Slow Bloom” as I finally am seeing myself come out of some heavy waters, returning back to the surface to bloom. 🪻🌀

RIP @kavinsky your music did remarkable things for my generation 🪼 by @laurenrushingart
