Double Leg Pumps on the Wunda Chair are a powerful foundation exercise for beginners. They help build leg and core strength, improve pelvic stability, and teach axial elongation. ✨ In the first clip, you’ll see what happens without pelvic stability - - rocking forward and back on the pelvis. ✨ In the second, notice the correct form: sit bones grounded, abdominals activated, and spinal muscles eccentrically lengthening. ✨ In the third, I show a moon box variation - - ideal for taller clients or those with hip and knee considerations. If you’re preparing for your Balanced Body Comprehensive test-out, join me for an Apparatus Review Workshop at @remedy_movement (in-person + virtual) on October 10. We’ll break down essential exercises across the apparatus, refine your teaching cues, and sharpen your test-out readiness so you feel confident and well-prepared. Parakeet, Roll Up & Reverse Monkey on Trapeze 🛑 A note about safety: These are advanced Trapeze exercises that require appropriate preparation, equipment knowledge, and instructor supervision. Do not attempt this sequence on your own. Maintain control of the bar throughout, and never let go of the bar. This series brings together abdominal and posterior chain strength, spinal articulation, pelvic stability, and whole-body coordination. But what makes these exercises particularly challenging is the ability to manage momentum. As the body moves through each transition, the abdominals, back extensors, gluteals, and hamstrings work together to support and control the movement. The goal isn’t simply to move through the sequence, it’s to maintain organization, control, and fluidity from beginning to end. For Pilates teachers, these exercises offer a wonderful opportunity to explore how strength, mobility, and control work together in advanced repertoire. A question for fellow teachers: When teaching advanced Trapeze work, how do you help students develop control of momentum while maintaining spinal articulation and pelvic organization? I’m looking forward to teaching Trapeze/Tower at @remedy_movement this weekend! We still have a few spots available. Registration link in bio. Align. Strengthen. Just Hanging Around on a Monday! Hanging Back Flexion/Extension is a wonderful Trapeze exercise that brings together upper-body strength, trunk support, and spinal mobility. The shoulder girdle and hand grip work to support the body while the abdominals and posterior chain contribute to control throughout the movement. From this supported position, we can explore spinal flexion and extension while developing strength, mobility, and whole-body coordination. I love exercises that challenge us to create stability while allowing movement to happen freely through the spine. Looking forward to teaching Tower/Trapeze at @remedy_movement this coming weekend! We still have a few spots available, and I’d love for you to join us. Registration link in bio. Align. Strengthen. Semi Circle / Ferris Wheel / Short Spine — Tower This is a fun, challenging exercise that brings together abdominal and posterior chain strength, spinal articulation, and whole-body coordination. But how do we prepare the body for this movement? I like to build toward the Tower variation through a progression of Rolling In and Out, first on the Pilates Arc and then on the roller, before introducing the exercise on the Tower. Each variation offers an opportunity to explore the mechanics of the movement, develop core control, and refine spinal articulation. The Arc provides a supportive surface for exploring the rolling action, while the roller introduces a different balance and stability challenge. By the time we transition to the Tower, students have had an opportunity to develop the movement awareness and control needed for the more advanced exercise. For me, effective teaching isn’t simply about introducing a challenging exercise. It’s about creating the experiences and movement connections that prepare the body to perform it with greater understanding, control, and confidence. Progression with purpose. Align. Strengthen. Carola’s Breathing is an intermediate Trapeze exercise that beautifully integrates strength, spinal mobility, and breath. The challenge is to coordinate muscular effort with fluid movement and breath, maintaining whole-body connection throughout the sequence. It’s a wonderful example of how the Pilates system asks us to move beyond isolated strength or flexibility and explore how the body functions as an integrated whole. Join me at @remedy_movement November 6–8, for the Trapeze/Tower module, where we’ll take a deeper dive into the expansive Trapeze/Tower repertoire and explore how to teach it with greater understanding, precision, and creativity. Advanced Sit Ups on the Tower Advanced Sit Ups challenges us to bring strength, mobility, and control together in one integrated movement. The abdominals support the trunk as the spine articulates through flexion and extension, while the hip flexors contribute to the movement. At the same time, maintaining scapular stability requires thoughtful organization of the shoulder girdle as the arms work with the springs. What I love about this exercise is that it asks for more than abdominal strength. It invites us to explore how the spine moves, how the trunk remains supported, and how the shoulders and arms stay connected to the center throughout the sequence. Join me November 6–8 at @remedy_movement for Trapeze/Tower! We’ll explore the repertoire and the principles that help us teach it with greater understanding and precision. Registration link in bio. Footwork — Trapeze Table Bend and Stretch is a foundational footwork exercise that develops lower-body strength, leg alignment, and awareness of how the feet and legs work together. The variations offer different movement opportunities: • Heels and toes on the bar: Explore foot placement and leg alignment in parallel or wide second position. • Single-leg footwork: Observe and refine leg symmetry while challenging pelvic stability and control. • Running in place: Alternate plantarflexion and dorsiflexion while exploring ankle mobility and a satisfying calf stretch. The setup matters, too. In the first three clips, the head is positioned toward the open end of the table; in the final clip, the head is toward the Tower. This second orientation may be useful for clients who have at least 90° of hip flexion available, allowing them to work within their available range. The Trapeze repertoire offers so many ways to develop strength, mobility, alignment, and whole-body integration. The challenge, and the art of teaching, is knowing how to select and adapt variations to meet each student’s needs. I’m excited to teach the Trapeze/Tower module at @remedy_movement, November 6–8! We still have spots available, and I’d love for you to join us. Registration link in bio. Align. Strengthen. Upper Arms on the Tower Sometimes a foundational exercise tells us a great deal about how a student organizes their movement. I often use Upper Arms on the Tower when working with new students because it offers a window into several important movement principles: trunk integration, abdominal control, spinal articulation and mobility, and scapular stability. As students move through the exercise, I’m observing not just what moves, but how the movement is organized. Can they articulate the spine fluidly? Can they move the arms without losing scapular organization? How effectively do they coordinate the limbs with the center? These observations help me understand where a student is in their movement practice and how best to guide their progression. The Tower and Trapeze repertoire offers an expansive range of opportunities to support, challenge, and refine movement—making it a valuable resource for Pilates teachers working with a diverse range of students. I’m looking forward to teaching a Tower/Trapeze module at @remedy_movement in November! Registration link in bio. Align. Strengthen.
