“... ay, suerte maldita, llevar cadenas y ser esclava, de un vil imperio”. “La Palma” Free version of “El Payande” by Lhasa de Sela
Performing with: @eguisantiago @josedabeat and Rafael Martínez
Off key at the end 🤦🏽‍♀️. Nevertheless, it was very emotional to perform in my motherland, my mainland, Puerto Rico.
Extremely grateful to the director of the festival, @kianidelvalle, for the invitation. #purasslágrimas #noalcolonialismo #boricua by @layara

In the early 2000s, my creative journey was transformed by mentors who opened my eyes to the profound power theater has to transform lives, strengthen communities, and create spaces for connection and belonging. Years later, upon becoming part of the Puerto Rican diaspora in New York City, I put those lessons into practice in service of a population that would profoundly transform my life once again.

New York City’s older adults (Super-Adults) are living archives of the city’s history, culture, and collective memory. They carry within them the stories, traditions, and lived experiences that have shaped this vibrant and diverse metropolis. Through my work with them, I came to understand that theater is not only a tool for artistic expression, but also a powerful vehicle for honoring their voices, preserving cultural heritage, fostering intergenerational connection, and affirming the dignity and value of every life story.

This is one of those projects that continues to thrive, thanks to the generous support of several organizations that believe in its mission.

“El sendero de mis manos” is a tribute to the labor legacy of a population too often forgotten: our Super-Adults, our abuelas and abuelos. It honors the hands that have worked, built, nurtured, and sustained our communities, and the lives and stories that deserve to be seen, heard, and celebrated.

Thank you for your work, your commitment, and your love. ✨💜✨

¡Gracias mundo! by @layara

We have gathered to read and sing through all of Rubalee, now fully composed, and we are about to share it in its entirety for the first time. (And then for the second, and third times.)
As part of our Artist Space Residency at @pregonesprtt
written by Javier Antonio González with a score by David Skeist and Michael Rekevics.
Rubalee follows a pod of North Atlantic Right Whales as they embark on a treacherous journey south. What awaits them at the end of their migration may be just as foul. With black metal percussion and choral music.

🐋 June 22 • 3pm & 7pm
