MEET FIONA MOTALA | HER MIRAJ Behind every business is a story and behind every founder is a journey that deserves to be heard. We’re excited to introduce Fiona Motala, founder of @lekkerkitchen and a valued member of @miraj_collective , joining us at our Founders Circle Dinner in Orange County! 🇺🇸 Fiona’s entrepreneurial journey began through personal loss. After losing her father, she turned her grief into purpose, building a business that celebrates her South African heritage, family traditions and love for food. With 15 years of catering experience, Fiona has built something that goes beyond serving meals. She’s preserving culture, honouring her mother’s resilience and creating a legacy for the next generation. This is what Miraj is about. Real people. Real stories. Founders who understand that success isn’t just about what we build, but why we build it. We’re proud to have Fiona as part of our growing collective and look forward to connecting with her in Orange County. 📍 Orange County, California 📅 Saturday, 7 November 2026 ⏰ 6 PM Join us for an intimate 3-course dinner, meaningful conversations and a community of Muslim founders who believe we weren’t meant to build alone. 🎟️ Limited seats available. Registration link in bio. by @lekkerkitchen
LEKKER ROOTS: The Story of Peri Peri 🌶️ Every chilli on earth started in the Americas. One of them grew wild in Africa and became the African bird’s eye chilli. In Swahili, pili pili just means pepper. Peri peri sauce came out of Mozambique and Portugal, then crossed into South Africa, where it became part of how we cook and gather. Now it’s our Safari Sauce. Made by hand, in small batches, with South African peri peri chillies. Halal, seed oil free, and good on everything from chicken to steak fries. Fiona said it best: please buy the sauce 😄 Woza! Get yours at lekkerkitchen.com 🔥 What would you put it on first? Some days, the journey looks like this. Exhausted, running on fumes, but still showing up. ❤️ After a long day, I wanted to take a moment to document another chapter in the Lekker Kitchen story. **We’ve moved! Lekker Kitchen is now based in Los Angeles!** 🎉 There’s so much that goes on behind the scenes when you’re building something from the ground up. The long days, the uncertainty, the difficult decisions, the sacrifices, and the little victories that keep you going. I’m sharing this not because we’ve arrived, but because we’re still on our way. InshaAllah, one day I’ll look back at these videos and remember what it took to get here. The tired eyes, the messy days, the small beginnings, and all the moments in between. Alhamdulillah for another chapter, another opportunity to grow, and the courage to keep going. **Here’s to documenting the journey, not just the destination.** 🤎 #LekkerKitchen #FounderJourney #BuildingLekker #MuslimWomanEntrepreneur #WomenInBusiness Alhamdulillah LosAngeles BehindTheScenes by @lekkerkitchen
We got the keys! Lekker is moving into our own kitchen in Los Angeles. That means bigger batches, better packaging and more of the food you love. While we move in and get everything approved, frozen orders are paused for a little while. Catering is still open, so your events are covered. Want to be first in line when frozen orders reopen? Tap the link in our bio to join the list. Eat Lekker. Live Fuller. by @lekkerkitchen
People ask me all the time why I started Lekker Kitchen. Halal is a $650 billion industry. Yet you still can’t walk into a supermarket and grab a halal meal that’s ready to go. So I made one. Complete meals that are halal, delicious and nutritious, made the way we cook at home. As a minority woman founder, I want businesses like ours on mainstream shelves, not tucked away in a corner. Follow along. This is just the start of my story. 🤍 #LekkerKitchen #EatLekker #HalalFood #WomanOwned #MuslimOwned #FounderStory #SeedOilFree #HalalMeals by @lekkerkitchen
POV: we're moving. Today we packed our last orders from our Santa Ana kitchen: WOZA Pepper Steak Pies, Bomba Buns and a big stack of Peri Peri Chicken and Rice. Same recipes, same small batches, halal and made from scratch, in a brand new kitchen. Follow along so you don't miss what's next! Eat Lekker. Live Fuller. by @lekkerkitchen

Sometimes, the most meaningful moments in entrepreneurship happen in the middle of the hustle. ❤️ Yesterday at ILMCON, the founder of @VeVeiled stopped by our booth just to tell me that she’s been following our journey and that she’s proud of what we’re building at Lekker Kitchen. Such a simple gesture, but one that meant more than she probably realizes. 🥹 Throughout the day, both men and women stopped by to share words of encouragement, tell us they’ve been following our journey, and express how inspired they were by what we’re building. And I have to say, it was deeply moving. Because the truth is, **building a business as a Muslim woman, while remaining uncompromising in my faith, values, and principles, hasn’t always been an easy road.** There are spaces where you have to work twice as hard to be taken seriously. Moments when staying true to your principles means walking away from opportunities. And days when you wonder whether anyone really sees the work happening behind the scenes. So when people, both men and women, take a moment to acknowledge that journey, it means something. Not simply because of the praise, but because of the recognition. To be seen, respected, and valued for building something without compromising who you are. As founders, we’re often so consumed by what still needs to be done that we forget how far we’ve come, or that someone else might be finding courage in our journey. To everyone who stopped by our booth, offered encouragement, shared their stories, or simply said, “Keep going” … THANK YOU! **Alhamdulillah. I’ve always believed that success should never require us to compromise our principles. And moments like these remind me why that matters.** May we continue to build businesses rooted in purpose, create opportunities for others, and celebrate one another along the way. Eat Lekker. Live Fuller. 🤍 #LekkerKitchen #ILMCON #MuslimEntrepreneurs #WomenInBusiness #FaithDrivenBusiness PurposeDrivenBusiness HalalBusiness Alhamdulillah by @lekkerkitchen

🌍 FROM UGANDA TO ORANGE COUNTY - A STORY OF RESILIENCE, HOPE & COMMUNITY. ❤️ Today, Lekker Kitchen had the privilege of bringing a little taste of East Africa to the table for The Royal Club at the Islamic Center of Yorba Linda @icylmasjid , in partnership with @olivecommunityservices . The afternoon’s featured speaker, Navaz Malik, shared “A Man Without a Country: A Journey of Resilience and Hope” — an inspiring journey that began in Uganda and led to Orange County, California. At Lekker Kitchen, we believe food is so much more than nourishment. It’s memory, culture, identity, and a beautiful way to bring people together. And what better way to complement a story rooted in East Africa than with a menu inspired by the flavors of the region? 🇺🇬🔥 🍟 Mogo — Seasoned cassava fries 🍗 Peri Peri (Pili Pili) Chicken — Served with savory rice and corn 🥯 Mandazi — A beloved East African favorite 🥗 Fresh Garden Salad From the familiar warmth of mandazi to the bold kick of pili pili, today’s menu was our way of celebrating culture through food. We’re grateful to ICYL’s Royal Club and Olive for allowing us to be part of an afternoon dedicated to storytelling, connection, and community. Because sometimes, a shared meal can tell a story of its own. ❤️ Eat Lekker.
