Whirlwind summer at Lekker HQ and it’s time to release an updated video (thanks to @phreeagentcreative) Thanks for watching, supporting, connecting, caring and being open to the fact that land-based “business as usual” is no longer an option in this volatile climate. Let’s work together to creatively increase local resilience through regenerative land design using #permaculture principles to improve health, reduce waste and build community! by @lekkerlanddesign

Concerned about the cost of food, the environment or the breakdown in community? Want to take action in your own outdoor space this year and start saving water, growing fruits and veg and start feeling more connected to the land? We can help! Since 2021 we’ve been installing edible landscapes, consulting with various #nonprofits and presenting to groups on our projects, ideas for increasing our resilience in the face of rapid #climatechange interested to know more? Visit our website, send us a text or give us a call to start chatting about your eco-actions this year! by @lekkerlanddesign

Goodbye summer 2026, you were a rollercoaster!
The ups:
Starting to plant out the pollinator sanctuary @planetbeehoneyfarm 🐝🥰🌻
This project has been just a joy to work on, both because of the nature of the site and the aspirational hosts Olivia and James.

Big harvests from the #communitygarden plot that allowed some sharing, mostly of / ridiculous amount tomatoes 😁🍅 This of course led to aaallll the processing and eating of these delicious treats!

Weddings! Two special couples tied the knot and due to one of them, we got to visit a beautiful flower farm in Ontario @heirloomheather 🌹🌷🌼🪻

Events we attended included:
Southern Interior Horticulture Show in Penticton

Vernon Home Show @bchomeshows where we had a booth for the first time!

Syilx Water Forum in Kelowna which brought together water stewards from up and down the valley to discuss the ongoing drought and what to do about it @okanagannation

Komasket Powwow and Truth and reconciliation Day at the Friendship centre. Welcoming, colourful and deeply meaningful events.🪶

And…working on a new Landcare podcast with @jeanettewithtrees which is diving deep into how we can all do better on land that we are managing in terms of reciprocity, reconciliation and relationship care 🥰✊🏼🌲

The downs:
The Bradley Creek fire and its effects on @okanaganband and beyond 🔥💨🆘🚒

The drought…water restrictions…stress…smoky skies

Not enough hours in the day!
We will need to grow the team in 2027 to increase impact with our permaculture projects.

Thanks for following along! Let’s keep doing “lekker”(delicious) projects together! by @lekkerlanddesign

Head and heart full of info about the Okanagan #foodsystem after yesterday’s summit in Kelowna. Great lineup of speakers, solid connections, ideas, warnings, plans and strategies discussed on getting food to those who need it at an affordable price while supporting local. 🥰✊🏼

Thanks again to @kelownagardenclub for having me and my little garden friend @lifespacegardens out tonight! Always a pleasure to speak with your group and share #gardening tips and ways to #savewater #rainwaterharvesting #kelowna 🫶🏻🤗🥰 by @lekkerlanddesign

Early morning at @planetbeehoneyfarm prepping for Honey Fest which starts at 10am 🐝🥰🫶🏻 it’s coming along, birds are really enjoying the sunflowers and woody habitat we left in place after the old pear orchard was removed. Pathways have been cut into the blend of grasses, clovers and native perennial flowers. Excited to start sharing this diverse and wild (work in progress) sanctuary with the public! No doubt there will be plenty of questions. by @lekkerlanddesign

Getting to know all the residents and newcomers to @planetbeehoneyfarm #PollinatorSanctuary that we are designing and in the process of planting. 🐝 Looking forward to sharing the process with guests this weekend at the Honey Fest!
The site still has a ways to go, but we are seeing so much life and action already. This week we’re working on re-mulching the perimeter to define the space, build some carbon into the soil and hold some moisture.
Soon we will have some updates for you about the increase in biodiversity that we’ve seen just this year!

Tomato soup, tomato sauce, frozen tomatoes canned tomatoes….🤪🫣it’s been quite the crop this year out at the #agriculturepark! Good soil, full sun, deer fencing and #permacultureprinciples gave a #lekker (delicious) harvest.
Why grow grass when you can grow food?

We are pleased to welcome back Keli Westgate, owner of Lekker Land Design, to speak to us about 💧 Rainwater Harvesting at our Oct 6th Meeting.

Keli is an ARCSA Certified Rainwater Harvesting System Designer and has a wealth of knowledge related to climate adaptation and permaculture.

As our climate continues to warm here in the Okanagan and with watering restrictions beginning earlier (and lasting longer), harvesting rainwater for supplementary watering is becoming an essential part of our gardening plans.
