Back home we have this breed of cherries that bloom early and fast, ripe by mid-May. I loved seeing them on the trees in my hometown's neighbourhoods whilst returning from school, because to me it meant there wasn't that much left until the summer holiday — until I would be, alas, free. It was the countdown to endless fun and exploring. Plus the cherries were delicious. That stuck with me, so every time May approached and I saw the cherry trees blossoming, I'd get this child-like feeling of excitement, that something big is about to come. Layla was born in this exact period, and inevitably I associated her with the May cherries, realising that she's pretty much the embodiment of those feelings I had when I was a child myself. These times go so fast and I wanted to capture and cherish this in some way.
