@swedewrestling @zigmundsjansons @zakariastallroth @aikbrottning @paokwrestling by @leonkessidis
/President by @leonkessidis
First year and first World Championships as a Greco-Roman broadcast analyst for UWW in the books. đŸŽ™ïž Had a great time in Astana, Kazakhstan. Really enjoyed the experience and learned a lot along the way. Hope everyone who tuned in enjoyed the commentary! Proud of my brother who finished 5th after a tough bronze medal match against Olympic champion Saravi from Iran. Not quite the result we hoped for of course but I am still very proud of him securing a top five spot at his fourth weightclass at world championship. A big thanks to everyone at UWW for the trust and the opportunity. đŸ«Ą @ericolanowski @unitedworldwrestling by @leonkessidis

Chapter 5 – Wearing the Greek flag on my chest đŸ‡ŹđŸ‡· In 2008 I was 18 years old. After winning my first championship medal the year before, I had set myself a new goal. Make the Greek national team. That year, I competed at the Greek Junior Championships again. And once again I finished third. đŸ„‰ I was disappointed in myself. I wanted to become Greek champion, but I still wasn’t there yet. Later that year I got an opportunity I had dreamed about for years. The number-one wrestler in my weight class couldn’t represent Greece internationally that year. So I got the opportunity instead. I was the second choice. And of course, that bothered me. I was incredibly happy to be selected but I wanted to be there because I was the best wrestler in my weight class. Not because someone else couldn’t go. I still remember getting my first national-team tracksuit. It was a dream come true. My first national-team training camp was together with both junior and senior wrestlers, near the village where my grandparents came from. I was proud to finally be part of the team. That year I represented Greece at both the Junior European and World Championships. I lost my opening match at both competitions. No wins. No big results. But I was wrestling better and more maturely than ever before. I wasn’t winning yet but I finally felt that I belonged at that level. Those experiences gave me confidence and being the second choice gave me even more motivation. I wanted to prove everyone who had doubted me wrong. I didn’t want to be someone’s replacement. I wanted to become Greek champion and I wanted to earn that spot myself. Timeline: Year: 2008 Age: 18 Greek Junior Championships: 2 x Bronze đŸ„‰ Biggest milestone: First selection for the Greek national team đŸ‡ŹđŸ‡· International debut: Junior European and World Championships Next goal: Become Greek junior champion. Next chapter: A victory my grandfather got to see. by @leonkessidis

đŸ‘šâ€đŸš’đŸ€Œâ€â™‚ïž by @leonkessidis
Chapter 4 - The First Medal Going into 2007 I was 17 years old and a first-year junior. After the way 2006 had ended I finally knew I could compete with the best wrestlers around my age. At the Swedish Championships, I beat the number-one wrestler in my weight class in the first match. It was a huge upset, he was second in Europe the year before. Then I lost my next two matches. I was out. Once again, I went home without a championship medal. Because of my Greek heritage, representing Greece had always been a possibility. I also had a role model at SpĂ„rvĂ€gen who just like me, had grown up in Sweden with Greek roots and he had chosen to wrestle for Greece. Seeing him do it successfully made me realize that maybe I could follow the same path. So I went to Greece to compete at the Greek Junior Championships at 84 kg. I went there and lost in the semifinals. Later on I found myself wrestling for bronze. Standing across from me on the mat was someone I knew very well. One of my teammates from Sweden. About a year earlier he had told me: The day I lose to you is the day I stop wrestling. That probably tells you something about how good people thought I was back then. 😅 Now we were wrestling each other with a Greek Championship medal on the line. I beat him. After almost ten years of wrestling, I finally had it. My first championship medal. It was bronze. đŸ„‰ But I didn’t care about the color. I was just happy. For so many years my goal had simply been to win a medal at a national championship. Now I had done it. And almost immediately something happened that would repeat itself throughout my whole career. I wanted more. The next goal became clear: Earn myself a place on the Greek national team. Timeline: Year: 2007 Age: 17 Category: First-year junior Weight: 84 kg Accomplishments: Bronze at the Greek junior championships đŸ„‰ Next goal: Becoming Greek champion. Next chapter: Wearing Greece on my chest. by @leonkessidis
