$I have a peculiar way of painting from life with set ups sitting behind me, turning to look, absorbing what I see and then turning back to the canvas. In this fractured approach something happens in the interval where a wee bit of memory and imagination kick in. But there is still the floral source. And so the outcome is not a hugely literal interpretation. Which I want. It’s more about mood and feeling. . . . #lesleybirchflorals #paintingflowers #floralpaintings by @lesley_birch$

When I’m not painting landscapes, I’m painting flowers. I really enjoy arranging them lovely and loose. I don’t know the rules of flower arranging and just follow instincts where a hanging bud or leaf is left alone falling as it chooses. Favourite vases and pots abound.

Just what I need — simplicity of earth and sky - gifts of art.

Weather Snapshots - a moving cloud over a barren fell, snippets of blue, earthen deep, ochres, bristling heather, whistling breeze in the chill.

My landscape paintings are more about feeling than a literal interpretation. I aim to evoke a deep sense of nostalgia often with vast horizons and that emotional connection between earth and sky. by @lesley_birch

Spectacular floral displays at The Limes this month for my Improvised Florals course. Super results from participants in a stunning setting. Look out for courses 2027. Dates tbc.

When I paint flowers I like to surround myself with many pots of blooms and shrubs - a huge cornucopia of shape smell and colour. This is what we do on my course at The Limes where the overwhelming beauty of nature comes into the studio. Thanks @emilystubbsceramics for taking photo.

I’ve just finished teaching my Improvised Florals course in the beautiful setting of @at_the_limes in Weeton, near Harrogate.
