Never in a million years would I have imagined how utterly thrilling this is. Just incredible watching the process unfold and the space take shape. So grateful to DJ Noyes @waterstreetdesign for recommending @framework_cb. by @lesliehsherr

And away we go. Fascinating to think about how these structures were made more than 250 years ago. by @lesliehsherr

Look who came to visit. Acronicta americana, the American dagger moth. It was originally described by Thaddeus William Harris (1795 - 1856) in 1841.

Ten years earlier, in 1831, Harris became the librarian of Harvard. Harris’ study of insects was a result of his interactions with William D. Peck (the first American-born entomologist) while a student at Harvard. Harris lectured on various topics related to his work as a naturalist while he was Harvard librarian, and originated the Harvard Natural History Society for students. He was also a founder of the Massachusetts Horticultural Society. by @lesliehsherr

House goals. 💚 As we embark on a renovation of our 1763 house in Goshen, CT, following plans by @hinkeldesigngroup, it was fortuitous to come upon the pristine and supremely elegant John Perkins House in Castine, Maine, which so closely matches our own Georgian-style residence. The antique dwelling is clad in clapboard siding and has a symmetrical front facade. The front facade’s most notable feature is its entry: a paneled front door with sidelights, Doric pilasters, cornice, and a prominent triangular pediment. The framing timbers are hand-hewn and mortised and tenoned with pegs or treenails; in our case there are also nails of hand-forged iron. John and Phebe Perkins were one of the first families to build a house in Castine. I’ve often wondered about the lives of the people who built our house before the American Revolution, all that they saw and experienced when Goshen was primarily a dairy farming community. I feel their presence in the house and am reminded that they also witnessed the light I so love to watch move through the rooms. by @lesliehsherr
