We have a win!!! 🐰✈️

Alaska Airlines and Hawaiian Airlines now allow rabbits in-cabin on ALL domestic routes, including to and from Hawaii. This happened because of you, this community, and the incredible @betterbunnyhawaii who fought alongside us.

Please take a moment to tag and thank @alaskaair They listened, and that deserves to be recognized🙏💚

And if you want to help us keep fighting for rabbit families everywhere, our GoFundMe is in our bio. Every little bit helps🙌

This win is yours. Now let’s get the rest🌟

Rosie lost her life because her family had no safe way to relocate with her.

During an unavoidable move from Calgary to Lisbon, Rosie was forced to travel as manifest cargo for three days because airlines would not allow her to fly in-cabin with her guardian — or even travel as checked baggage on the same relatively short flight.

She was separated from her family for a journey that could have been completed in about 12 hours and arrived in critical condition.

Her guardian was told Rosie would be cared for during the journey, but she arrived weak and showing signs that she had not received the care she needed. Despite her family's desperate efforts to syringe-feed and support her, Rosie continued to decline and passed away.

Rosie's death was preventable.

Rabbits — and all animals traveling long distances — require proper monitoring and access to food and water during stressful situations such as transport. Rabbits, in particular, require constant access to hay to maintain normal digestive function. They should not be left unmonitored for multiple days during transit.

When airlines deny safe in-cabin options or other supervised or reasonably short travel alternatives, families are left with choices that can put their rabbits' lives at risk.

Rabbits deserve better. Their families deserve better.

Welfare-aligned alternatives exist, but airlines continue to choose policies that leave many families with no safe option.

In memory of Rosie, airlines such as @aircanada should work with campaigns like @LetBunniesFly and rabbit-savvy veterinarians to develop transport policies that prioritize animal welfare while meeting operational requirements.

And no, not transporting them at all is not a humane alternative. Rabbits are the third most popular companion animals in many countries around the world. They deserve travel options aligned with veterinary science and reality.

Part 2 - More details on this case in our next post.

Meet Angel. 🐰

She weighs just 1.25 lb (0.57 kg), yet airlines still require her to travel as manifest cargo while her family's small dog can fly safely in the cabin.

Her mom is trying to return home to Europe from Canada and is simply asking for one thing: the chance to keep her tiny companion by her side.

All Angel needs to enter France is a standard health certificate issued by a accredited veterinarian. Despite this, airlines still do not offer her an in-cabin option.

Companion rabbits deserve the same opportunity for safe, humane travel as other small pets that fit comfortably beneath an airline seat.

In memory of Rosie, we're asking airlines to create an in-cabin option for rabbits so families never have to choose between leaving a beloved bunny behind or sending them as cargo.

Please help us advocate for compassionate, species-appropriate travel:
- Sign the petitions in our bio
- Contact airlines and ask for a seat under the seat from Montreal to Paris (or anywhere else in the EU) for Angel

$8,500 to fly three rabbits in cargo. That's almost the price of a private pet charter.

When Peter, Poppy, and Sheila moved from the US to Estonia with their family, cargo was the only option.

Most families could never afford that much, and when they can't, rabbits get left behind or surrendered.

Even at that price, there was no guarantee they would be okay. Bonded sisters Poppy and Sheila were only kept together because their family insisted. There was no hay, and the water bottles were unfamiliar to them.

The family had to check them in five hours early and reroute their entire trip to ensure the rabbits wouldn't be held overnight. All three made it, but the journey was stressful and not without risk.

Families pay a fortune and still can't be sure their bunnies will arrive safely. Meanwhile, a small cat or dog could have flown in the cabin with their family for $200 or less.

Rabbits deserve safe, affordable travel in the cabin. No family should have to choose between moving and keeping their companions.

And let's put some misconceptions to rest: rabbits are not a meaningful source of rabies transmission to humans, and domestic and international rabbit travel does not require the kind of specialized transport arrangements often imposed on them.

Rabbits are established companion animals, not cargo. They do not need specialized transporters or cargo holds to travel safely. In fact, rabbit savvy vets agree keeping them with their families in an appropriate carrier under the seat is a far more welfare-conscious approach.

Their quiet nature also makes them well suited to cabin travel.

Just finished folding 750 paper bunnies in memory of Rosie🙏Wasabi had to fly cargo from Japan to San Diego and hearing Rosie’s story brought up so many emotions, that I felt like I needed to give @aircanada my all, so no more of our buns would have to suffer in cargo🥺

After working on this all summer for about 187 hours I finally finished and shipped them off to @hekatethebunny💚 Thank you so much to Hekate and @hocus_herbert_neninger for helping with this. It truly would not be possible without you!!

➡️And thank you to everyone who watched, shared, signed the petition, and left a message for Air Canada. It means the world!! Let’s keep it going!!!

After a long journey, Kiwi made it safely to his new home in Fort Bragg, NC! 🇵🇷🇺🇸🤍🐰🪖

Just a year ago, bunnies couldn’t fly in the cabin on @alaskaair!

Bun Bun recently traveled from Los Angeles to New York with his family, thanks to Alaska’s policy change. Everyone at the airport and on the flight loved Bun Bun, as always!

Without this policy change, his family might have faced a weeklong road trip or had to leave him behind.

Today, many Canadian families face exactly this dilemma. And across the U.S., families without access to the few bunny-friendly airlines still face heartbreaking choices. And even more families around the world find themselves in this situation.

Bunnies are the third most popular pet. They are family, not cargo, not disposable.

Let’s keep fighting for a world where no bunny has to be left behind simply because of arbitrary airlines policies.

Fendi is a rabbit who was left stranded at JFK for 5 days after ITA Airways informed her mom mid-boarding that her flight “would not be making it.” The transport cost $4,000. The airline offered no assistance. A year ago, Fendi would have flown in-cabin. Now she was treated like an object. She survived, but the next bunny may not.

ITA Airways has allowed rabbits in-cabin for decades. There was no reason to change that.

Fendi was left stranded at JFK Airport for 5 days.

Her $4,000 “transport” was no guarantee she’d make it. A year ago, she could have flown in the cabin with her mom. Now, @itaairways treated her like a package that could “just be delayed”-not a beloved family member.

Fendi survived. But the next bunny may not.

ITA Airways, you allowed rabbits to fly in the cabin for decades. You call yourself pet-friendly and a trailblazer for allowing large dogs on board, yet you have suddenly banned small rabbits, putting their lives at risk.

Bunnies are not packages. They are family. Families who relied on you for decades.

660/1000 origami bunnies done! Trying to get to 750–800 before mailing them to @hekatethebunny next week. Thank you Hekate for helping me get to 1000 and stringing it all together🙏💚

(I haven’t been able to make much content this week, so I wanted to give a little update.)

Had to buy a second book because the first one only had 500 sheets, not 1000😭😅

Luigi has made her weight loss goal!! So we have a spay consultation next week. If all goes well, she’ll have her surgery the next day🌟 Happy, but also feeling a bit nervous, since Wasabi’s spay recovery was a bit rocky🙏

Wasabi is her happy and sassy self as ever!! by @letbunniesfly

@LetBunniesFly loves Bun Jovi and Berlin, and so does the world!

If there is one thing we have learned from the recent controversy involving the two therapy bunnies at Bradley International Airport and influencer Alexa Curtis's false claim that they were wasting taxpayer money, it is that people love bunnies at airports and want to see more of them!

If we are concerned about wasting taxpayer money, let's also look at the consequences of airlines that don't recognize our bunnies as integral members of the family. When families cannot relocate safely with their pets, they may postpone relocations indefinitely, negatively affecting the economy, or surrender their beloved companions to shelters, some of which (not all) receive taxpayer funding.

Read some of what the community had to say about bunnies at airports and how much they love them!

Let's stand united and support Bun Jovi, Berlin, and all the other bunnies fighting for their right to fly safely in-cabin with their families, a right that small dogs and cats already have.

Some little buns dream of endless greens, but I dream of a world where every single rabbit is protected, respected, and heard.

This past weekend at the Animal Law Conference, co-presented by Animal Legal Defense Fund (ALDF) and Animal Law Studies (CALS) at Lewis & Clark Law School, that vision took another big step forward.

As a grateful Tribbles Rabbit Rescue alum and dedicated supporter of Let Bunnies Fly, I am so proud to see both organizations representing buns in DC!

Every legal session attended, connection made, and idea shared brings us closer to stronger protections for domestic rabbits everywhere.

Thank you to everyone using their platform to give bunnies a real voice! by @letbunniesfly
