so... my second publication with has just been released on @pghreviewofbooks . Its an analysis of the aesthetics of the Simulated Border, my proposed addition to the set of practices that we have come to call the Southern Border. Issues like this, which are explicitly concerned with ethnicity and national identity, are going to be necessary questions for artists to answer before they are fully capitalized on by other parties who interested in division rather than solidarity. Anyone who took the time to read my first essay with PRoB knows that I am pretty unabashed about sharing my political views and that these views are closely connected with my practice as an artist. This is my first essay that moves into aesthetics and critical theory more than sound studies or musicology and, although it does not discuss my artistic practice directly, my views on contemporary culture heavily inform my musicianship. As the American fascist movement progresses, it's going to become more and more important for artists to take sides. We can't quite dream up a resistance to fascism without cultural workers who are willing to openly discuss it. by @liam_battle
