POSTS STORIES REELS

My Book Review Process in 3 simple stages:

1. Finding Book

I'll make another post on how I find the books I want to review. But I typically use the recommendation on @goodreads and view other bookstagrammers content. The book cover and the blurb usually capture my attention first.

2. Blog Draft

This is the planning stage. Before and after reading the book. I'll make another post on how I make book notes whilst reading. I research the author and their accomplishments. I structure the post with sections on the plot, characters, themes, my favourite parts and my overall thoughts with rating. I have a post on my Book Rating System.

3. Posting Review
After countless drafts and proofreading. I promote my review on my social media platforms. Tagging the author helps. I can make another post on how I create content to promote my book reviews.

What's your process?

If you liked my content, please like, share, save & comment. All my book reviews are in my bio!

Happy reading!

Here is a slide of what you can expect to see on my Instagram and on my blog.

I am providing clarity on what I will be focusing on as I build my book blog and bookstagram content.

I love being a part of the book community and the community of black writers. It's an active and supportive group.

How much exposure are black authors/and or black writers receiving? If we don't promote our community then who will?

Click link in bio to read my content & don't forget to FOLLOW me to be updated whenever I post & LIKE & SHARE or SAVE this post as it helps with exposure.

💌Thanks alot 🥰

📚✨ I had an amazing time visiting the Wellcome Collection Museum and Library in central London, a fascinating space exploring the connections between science, medicine, life and art!

I also had the opportunity to explore Rudy Loewe’s exhibition, which delved into themes of grief and possibility. What really stood out to me was the recommended reading list and the exhibition’s exploration of mental health within the Black community. It was eye-opening, thought-provoking and a reminder of just how important it is to have these conversations and stories represented. 🖤

As someone who loves discovering books and shining a light on Black authors, this was such a worthwhile visit!

Have you visited the Wellcome Collection or explored Rudy Loewe’s exhibition? Let me know in the comments! 👇🏾📖

To celebrate Black History Month here in the UK, we’ve put together a display in the shop featuring books by Black authors 📚🖤

And honestly, it felt VERY fitting to share this here, because one of the things I’ve always loved about my bookstagram is shining a light on Black authors — particularly Black British authors. 🥹

The best part? The books bought from the display will be replenished, and the proceeds from the purchases will be donated to charity! ❤️

Seeing these books together has also reminded me of one of my secret dreams… 👀✍🏾 I’d love to publish general fiction books one day. So maybe this is a little sign to stop calling it a “secret” dream! 😂

Here are some of the books currently featured:

📖 Brenton Brown — Alex Wheatle
📖 Queenie — Candice Carty-Williams
📖 Purple Hibiscus — Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie
📖 Such a Fun Age — Kiley Reid
📖 The Seven Moons of Maali Almeida — Shehan Karunatilaka
📖 Rainbow Milk — Paul Mendez
📖 Becoming — Michelle Obama
📖 Thieves' Gambit — Kayvion Lewis
📖 Black Cake — Charmaine Wilkerson
📖 Chain-Gang All-Stars — Nana Kwame Adjei-Brenyah
📖 Fasting, Feasting — Anita Desai
📖 A New Me — Helen Oyeyemi

And yes… I’m trying to be consistent with this bookstagram again, lol. 😂📚

Have you read any of these? And which Black author would you recommend I add to my TBR? 👇🏾 by @liastories1

Okay, I said I didn’t want this page to be focused on Urban Fiction… and I wasn’t quite being honest. 😂

I just finished Lemon Pepper: Where Love & Grief Meet by Nina @porterpublications , and I had to give her her props! I can’t let a talented author go unrecognised. 👏🏾

The way she tied grief and love into such a spellbinding story was brilliant. I haven’t completed all of her books yet, but I plan to. I’ve enjoyed the ones I’ve read so far and I’m definitely looking forward to getting through the rest.

Duan and Benz were truly special. 🥹❤️

Just me and my Kindle. 📖✨

I honestly haven’t read a physical book in a very long time. I find reading on my Kindle so much more convenient, especially when I’m out and about.

I’ve been MIA from this page because, if I’m being honest, I’ve been completely lost in the world of Urban Fiction. 😂 And I don’t really want this page to become all about the books I read purely for entertainment.

As I’ve mentioned before, I do keep track of and review the books I’m reading on Goodreads. It’s just easier for me, especially because it’s connected to Amazon and everything is in one place.

I’m not going to promise that I’ll suddenly become consistent on here 😂 but I do still love books, so I thought it was time I popped back in. 🤎

I had the opportunity to watch "For Black Boys Who Have Considered Suicide When The Hue Gets Too Heavy" by Ryan Calais Cameron at The Garrick Theatre, West End.

It was such an incredible heart-felt performance that explored diverse themes within boyhood/manhood. It was insightful and I'm still processing it!

Slide 1: The end of the performance. The standing ovation. I took a cheeky picture as it was their last show.😭

Slide 2: I was waiting to get inside so I took this picture. It's one of the cast members. I don't have a fave as they were all amazing!

Slide 3: The outside of the Garrick Theatre. It was super packed and I was impressed with the turnout.

Slide 4: Another snap of a cast member whilst I was waiting to get inside the venue.

Slide 5: The programme which was worth the £5 🤣. (People were grumbling about the price) It has information on the cast, the production team, insight on rehearsals etc.

Slide 6: My wobbly camera skills as I tried to record inside the theatre. It was smaller than I expected. But I didn't mind.

Slide 7: A cheeky selfie of Moi, your friendly bookstagrammer. 😂

I had a great time. As a lover of storytelling, the theatre 🎭 was guaranteed to be enjoyable. It was black-themed which I am interested in.

So, if you have any other theatre suggestions let me know!

•𝑩𝒐𝒐𝒌 𝒔𝒍𝒖𝒎𝒑 (noun) definition:

A period when book after book after book isn't hitting, and I start to wonder if I feel like reading anymore. (Carrie Deming owner of Dog Eared Book)

It's a shame when every book you read is so boring that it kills your enthusiasm to read anything else.

So, forgive me for my inactivity, on here, in the Bookstagram universe.

I can only recommend books I've actually enjoyed!!!

Also, I've come to the realisation that I'm a mood reader🤔. I don't follow my TBR list. So, I'm all over the place lol

If you've got any suggestions of how to get out of a book slump, I'd greatly appreciate it!!!
