Student Recommendations Part 1: This is a great way to get kids invested and thinking about what they want to read this year. Made a quick template in Canva and shared it with students. There were 4 to a page. Leave me a note in the comments if you want me to send you the template.

Under Story is taking a bit to build the foundation, but I’m intrigued by the scientific discoveries in Antarctica and looking forward to the story. Book Thief will go down as a top 5 book for me. An incredible audio read. Ready to get back to my favorite genre soon with Have a Great Summer! #bookstagram by @librarianonvacation

📍 Alaska in October

Pros: budget-friendly- Alyeska Resort is very reasonable this time of year, still warm enough for a glacier tour, less crowds

Cons: limited tour companies. Most things shut down in September, the ski lift for Alyeska doesn’t reopen until Thanksgiving for ski season

Double-check your dates to make sure your bucket list items are available before booking.

A lot of people might disagree with me, but my sister and I thought September was the perfect time to visit Nantucket for a girls weekend. The weather was lovely, and all of the flowers (except the roses) were still in bloom. 🌺 Steal our itinerary for day 1 below. ⬇️

Day 1️⃣
⛴️ Take an early ferry from Cape Cod (1 hr)
🛍️ Check out all of the shops downtown
🦞 Lobster sandwich and CRUcumber martini at CRU
💐 Flowers on Dory Street
⛪️ First Congregational Church- check times before you go to see if you can climb the steps in the tower for views of the island
😴 Poolside nap or swimming at The Beachside Hotel
🍺 Cisco Brewery for drinks, food trucks, and live music

Just watch out for those early Nor’easters! We got lucky this time by just a few days.🍀

POV: 4 generations of your family grows giant pumpkins.

My father grew giant pumpkins for over a decade. He set the Missouri state record at 360 lbs. back in 1991. A year later, he and his buddies threw the first Pumpkin Daze, a fall festival and official world weigh-off center.

35 years later, Pumpkin Daze is a 2 day affair with food trucks, shopping, and tons of activities for kids.

The prizes money will hopefully be growing, too, next year, so make plans to be there the first weekend in October.
