POSTS STORIES REELS

one week of Like a Halo or a Cradle 🩵😇🛏️

Freddie invited me to join Humors back in 2021 or 2022 as a “drummer” which is funny in hindsight. He and Gemma shared a clear and dauntingly profound musical connection, and I sort of showed up and started trying to add percussion to it where it made sense. Pretty quickly and very organically, I was let into their shared language; I started setting up synths and samplers next to the drum kit, and we would tap into this seemingly inexhaustible current of exploration and free improvisation we built together. The many afternoons where the three of us would just plug in and see where an idea would take us are - and will always remain - some of my favorite memories as a musician ever. Translating those ideas into recordings was its own ambling and exploratory process, sometimes maddening, but made so by an insistence on just doing things the way we wanted to do them, allowing ourselves to try things out, dubbing and mixing and scrapping a great many parts in pursuit of something ineffable. It took us years, and maybe it couldn’t have been any other way. I don’t think I’ve ever put as much labor into anything. Through it all, I have felt extreme gratitude at the creative trust extended to me by my bandmates, and an ever deepening admiration for them as musicians and friends in equal measure. We made something that sounds exactly the way we wanted it to sound, and I’m incredibly proud of it.

You can stream the album anywhere, or purchase it on our bandcamp. Show it to a friend if you’re into it. Thanks for listening 🩵

Our third album, Like a Halo or a Cradle, is now available to purchase on bandcamp and stream everywhere else. We began recording many of these songs some time in 2022 or 2023, and worked on them more or less continuously until we sent them to get mastered earlier this year. We are tremendously proud of them, and overjoyed to be sharing them with the world at long last. Thanks for listening 🩵👼🛏️ by @lifeafterloveless

Party, the last single from our album Like a Halo or a Cradle, is available to stream everywhere now. You can also watch the full music video, which we made with our day one @gideon_berger , on YouTube. Like a Halo or a Cradle comes out next week. Thanks for listening 🧡

Escape, the second single from our album Like a Halo or a Cradle, is out everywhere today. We recorded most of this song on a sunny afternoon in Freddie’s living room, when we all had somewhat different hair. We would end up mixing almost all of the album in that same room over the next couple years. When we wrote it, we had been playing a lot of shows and improvising together with the unwieldy setups captured here; it’s accordingly the most sonically chaotic song on the album, but all its elements — if you ask me — weave around and play off of one another to build something spectacular that’s much greater than the sum of its parts.

Like a Halo or a Cradle will be out in October. Thanks for listening ❤️ by @lifeafterloveless

Today we released “Child” — the first single from our forthcoming album “Like a Halo or a Cradle” which we will set free next month. I feel such gratitude to have written this song while hiking behind AZ West in Joshua Tree, feeling that special desert alchemy of inspiration, a complex and invigorating feeling of being both vulnerable and strong. Coming back to our DIY recording room, I felt brave and expectant, knowing my bandmates would help me bring these words life I didn’t know they had yet. I imagine this song as a choreographed fight scene, no real blood, but the pangs of hurt still sting and the joy of victory still rings out. Hope you’ll listen and send it to a friend 🌅 xoxo

Doll Spirit Vessel’s second LP Bow is now available on streaming + for purchase on bandcamp. A long road, filled with the labors of many, runs from these songs’ creation years ago (nearly a decade, in the case of Bicycle, which Katya first showed me in our apartment together in college) to their release in the form you can hear now. I am very proud of how it sounds.

second single from DSV LP2 out now. this song is called Kissing My Cup and it is from the other half of the album which we recorded in philadelphia and which is much lighter than the texas stuff. to me, who did not write the lyrics, it is a really beautiful song about the early stages of being in love, and it calls to mind the place where it was written and recorded, west philly at the beginning of summer. these songs came together very quickly thanks to the expertise of @cdennen who learned/wrote the bass parts in like a day and @hthrjns.wav who engineered the live sessions and indulged my vision of dubbing a second (or possibly a third?) drum track on the bridge. special praise as ever to @spiral___pier who did a brilliant job mixing the whole record, I believe I sent over like 6 piano stems for this song and said “can you please figure it out” and I actually think it worked.

The album will be called Bow and it will be out in March. DSV 4ever by @lifeafterloveless

in 2025 we played one show. In 2026 we will play 2026 shows #bigwhitecloud #blessed by @lifeafterloveless

Delayed & abridged grid roundup for first DSV release in three years. This song is called Godless and it is probably my favorite from an album that is now finished and will come out in 2026. We recorded most of this a very long time ago during a very special experience at a fancy studio in Texas during which I felt like a kid in a candy shop but also confident enough in the talents of those around me to feel like that candy was deserved, and actually not candy but useful if expensive musical equipment. Favorite detail on this track is @foundationfelix tuning the toms to form an A major triad first inversion if you even care. @dollspiritvessel is, in addition to my best friend, an incomparably talented songwriter and that’s clearer nowhere than on this song. @oksanabaiulofficial put down probably four seamlessly interweaving guitar tracks (on four guitars?) as well as the bass.

Not pictured but equally essential are @peterjgeiser who expertly engineered the whole Texas session; @will_henriksen___ on the violin, or the fiddle, I don’t know the difference; @no.straight.lines__ with beautiful supporting vocals; @spiral___pier who mixed the whole record flawlessly; and Bill Henderson at Azimuth Mastering who deserves special praise for charging much less than he could get away with for his expertise.

Lastly, we have ambivalently come to the conclusion that this is in fact a Christmas song, though we did not intend it to be so. Please feel free to play it while you decorate your tree.

More singles and full album next year ❤️ by @lifeafterloveless
