I love me some face 💜🦄

#makeup #selfie #face #purple #woman by @lifewithshanami

I made this mistake, so I’m speaking from EXPERIENCE, not judgement! 😭💳

I took on a significant financial commitment in my name to support someone I loved.

Despite challenges in the relationship, I believed I was investing in their growth and our future.

But here’s what I learnt: You can have the right intentions and still make the wrong financial decision!

When circumstances changed, the financial responsibility remained with ME.

Here are 5 things you need to understand before taking out credit for your partner:

1. 💳 Your name, YOUR liability. You’re responsible for agreements in your name.

2. 📉 Your credit is on the line. Missed payments can affect your financial future.

3. 💸 Can you afford it ALONE? Never depend solely on someone else’s promise to repay.

4. ⚖️ A breakup doesn’t cancel debt. Your relationship status doesn’t change your agreement with the lender.

5. ❤️‍🩹 Financial pressure affects relationships. Money problems can create conflict, stress and resentment.

And marriage doesn’t automatically protect you from these risks either!

You can believe in someone’s potential without making it your financial responsibility.

Supporting someone should never require sacrificing your own financial security.

Love wisely. Build wisely. Protect your future! ❤️

Would you ever take out credit for someone you’re dating? 👀👇

🧬 GENE THERAPY 101 — Sickle Cell Edition

Gene therapy is one of the most exciting developments we’ve seen in sickle cell treatment… but I think we also need to talk honestly about what it actually involves.

It isn’t simply “get gene therapy and you’re cured”.

Your own stem cells have to be collected, modified, returned to you — and before that happens, you undergo intensive chemotherapy to prepare your bone marrow.

There can be weeks in hospital, a long recovery, fertility considerations, side effects, strict eligibility criteria and long-term follow-up.

And importantly: not everybody with sickle cell currently qualifies or has access.

So YES, this is incredible progress. 👏🏾🧬

But when we talk about gene therapy, we also need to understand why somebody living with sickle cell can’t necessarily just “go and get it”.

Innovation AND informed conversation. 🤎

Though I joke around, this is still me walking by FAITH! 😂❤️

But who wouldn’t want to hear the story of a millionaire who was once broke, went through a divorce, became a single mother, battles sickle cell AND fears God?! 😭🔥

Yup, that’s me! You just caught me before the millions……. Or billions😂🎬

Welcome to Life With Shanami! 🍿❤️

This is raw and vulnerable, but I’m sharing it for education and awareness. 🩸❤️‍🩹

Because unfortunately, I’ve experienced bias, judgement and discrimination … both within my own community and in workplaces … simply because people don’t always understand what living with Sickle Cell actually looks like.

When an illness is invisible, people often judge you by the moments they CAN see.

They see you smiling. Working. Travelling. Parenting. Laughing with your friends. Living your life.

What they don’t see is what your body may be fighting behind all of that.

I was literally at home having fun, talking on the phone to my friends… until my body said otherwise 🥺💔

I haven’t felt pain like this in a LONG time. (I get frequent episodes but I haven’t had this level)

One of the hardest things about Sickle Cell is how misunderstood it is because of how “normal” we can look.

You can see us smiling, laughing, working, travelling, parenting and enjoying life… but sometimes we are doing all of that while fighting against our own bodies. 🥹

Chronic fatigue is one thing. Then imagine having to push through pain just to have what everyone else considers a “normal” day.

I HATE hospitals 😭 so if you see me here, just know it’s serious.

I hate having to take strong prescribed medication like morphine and fentanyl… and the crazy thing is, how can someone take medication THAT strong and STILL be in pain?! 😩💊

Imagine having a genetic health condition like this, being a single mum, and at one point working TWO jobs… and still having to figure life out.

That’s why we’re called Sickle Cell Warriors. 🩸⚔️❤️
Because whether our bodies cooperate or not… somehow, we still have to figure it out.

And for me, I know it’s only JESUS that has carried me this far. 🙏🏾🤍

Only God knows how many times I’ve had to keep going when my body was telling me I couldn’t.

Still blessed. Still fighting. Still here. ❤️‍🩹
