POSTS STORIES REELS

There’s so much to say and so many to thank and all of that to come. Today's post will be brief-ish because I’m still in shock that it actually happened.

It felt impossible. No matter the milestones or the mileage accrued it felt like it was never enough. There was no celebration or letting it feel real until it was done. Even after I found the sign and hiked to the point it still didn’t feel real.

14 & 1/2 days. Over 2 weeks and 630 miles. I cannot overstate the level of hard and emotion I felt every day.

This journey was the brainchild and hard work of @ngarmstrong . He put this route together as a personal goal of his own and a way to shed light on the work of his ministry @run4water_ . When I called Greg and asked how I can help people he suggested this route. When Greg Armstrong tells you that you should do something you do it there will be tremendous growth in it I can assure you.

We also could not have done this alone. The support and love have floored me. I know the world is good but I never could have imagined the blessings we would have bestowed upon us throughout this endeavor.

I am not special nor am I this elite athlete. I simply chose to believe that I could do this. That I could move forward each day. I chose to accept the help and the support of those around us and continue for something more than myself. Had this been for me I would have quit. Had this been to have something to brag about or add to a resume I would have folded. I started each day for those who believed in me and for those we could help. God watched over me every day and never left my side despite the danger and overwhelm he was there.

Jon and I have so much to unpack now that we are home. Now that we can feel everything and say what we felt. I can’t imagine what he must have felt watching me set out each day mile after mile battling to keep going.

Believe in yourself. Put yourself out there. Be willing to be tested. Be willing to be vulnerable and feel empty. Be willing to take another step past your perceived limits. There’s so much growth in facing what feels impossible and what feels endless.

I helped this guy make it across the road yesterday! 🐢

Highway 100 was BUSY, it was raining, and this big guy was just trying to get to the other side. Then a man stopped in the median right in front of where the turtle was. He had his daughter with him, probably a preteen or teenager, and when I spoke to him, he told me he was on the phone.

And I couldn’t help but think, man, what a missed opportunity to teach your daughter something. I’m not saying you have to get out and wrestle a snapping turtle on the side of the road. Hell, handling snapping turtles isn’t exactly at the top of MY list of favorite activities, especially in the rain with cars flying by. But you could offer to watch for traffic, help slow cars down, or just ask if there’s anything you can do.

You had an opportunity to show your daughter what it looks like to help someone, even when it’s inconvenient, and you chose to sit there.
Meanwhile, I’m over here in the rain, negotiating with a pissed off prehistoric dinosaur while trying not to become roadkill myself.

Sometimes it’s not about doing the big thing. It’s about being willing to do SOMETHING. Anyway, here’s hoping this grumpy old dinosaur is living his best turtle life. by @lilbeccabee

This popped up in my memories today, and I can’t remember if this was my first or second time doing 75 Hard. One of the daily requirements is taking a progress picture, along with completing all the other tasks.

Over the years, I’ve bounced between being at really high levels of fitness and just enjoying life without worrying so much about it all. Do I feel better when I’m disciplined, focused, and consistent? Absolutely.

But this past year gave me a whole different perspective. I spent the better part of a year with my body quite literally attacking itself. Nothing I did seemed to help, mostly because I had no idea what was happening. Once I finally had some answers, I was able to start giving my body what it needed. And then I gave myself permission to just breathe.
Good food, drinks, more walks than runs, and a little to no structure. What most people would probably consider an off season.

I know not everyone is a fan of taking time off or backing away from training, but after years of endurance racing, especially the really long stuff I love, I’ve come to appreciate just how important an off season is. Not just physically, but maybe even more so mentally. Sometimes the best thing you can do for yourself is stop pushing and just enjoy where you are.

Anyway, I’ve got big plans for next year and fully intend to have a pretty packed race calendar. I’m looking forward to getting back to this level of discipline and seeing what I can do.

Will I do 75 Hard again? Mmmm, maybe. I’ve successfully completed it three times now, and there’s something about the accountability that I really enjoy. I like the pressure of making a commitment to myself and knowing that when I say I’m going to do something, I’m going to get it done. But I’ve also learned there’s a time to push and a time to give yourself a little grace. And both have their place. by @lilbeccabee

Also the song automatically generated but it’s my jam and it’s staying on FYI

When your favorite mushroom 🍄 requires you risking life and limb climbing trees. I hate climbing trees. The bounty has yet to be acquired stay tuned.

My hair is fall AF today. 🍂 The leaves are my color.

My run turned into more of a hike after I took a detour onto the trails because everything was just too pretty to pass up. I love this little window of the year when everything is so colorful. I wish it lasted longer.

I should probably come up with a better way to store my buckles but for now this is getting the job done. And I don’t hate it. by @lilbeccabee

As the clock counted down Jon & his crew readied for another loop and Mark’s crew for a fast turn around.

Yard 100 was a close one! There’s never a shortage of drama in the backyard.

Mark is already past his previous PR, and now we’re chasing one for Jon. His PR here is 111 yards. Can they push him past it?

Stay tuned. We shall see!
