Forever a Tiger: Otis Livingston II’s Legacy Rises Above the Court

Some jerseys represent points, wins, and championships. Others represent something much bigger.

On a night filled with pride and emotion, Linden High School retired the jersey of Otis Livingston II, cementing his place among the greatest Tigers to ever wear the uniform.
For many in attendance, the ceremony was about more than basketball. It was a celebration of a Linden native whose journey inspired an entire community.

Long before the championships and accolades, former head coach Phil Colicchio saw something special in Otis. Beyond his talent, he recognized leadership, character, and an ability to bring people together qualities that would define his career.

As Mayor Derek Armstead reflected, Otis helped bring championships home to Linden and created unforgettable moments for a city where basketball remains a source of pride.
Otis went on to earn statewide honors, become one of the most accomplished players in George Mason history, and build a professional career overseas. Yet throughout the evening, speakers emphasized that his impact extends far beyond the court.

Athletic Director Mike Firestone praised Otis for embodying the values of Linden High School through hard work, leadership, academic achievement, and perseverance. His accomplishments serve as an example for future generations of student-athletes.

When Otis addressed the crowd, he thanked his family, coaches, teammates, and supporters for helping make his journey possible. Even on a night dedicated to his accomplishments, he made it clear that the honor belonged to everyone who contributed along the way.

He also shared a message with the current Linden Tigers, encouraging them to trust the process, value teamwork, and embrace the work required to achieve their goals.

As his jersey rose into the rafters, it symbolized more than athletic success. It represented dedication, sacrifice, community, and the pride of an entire city.

For future Tigers who look up and see No. 3 hanging above them, the message will be clear: dreams that begin in Linden can reach the world, but they never forget where they started. by @linden_bb

After powering past Union in the semifinal, No. 2 Linden will host No. 6 Plainfield on March 6th with the NJSIAA North Jersey, Section 2, Group 4 championship on the line.

The Tigers used a dominant second half Tuesday outscoring Union 29–17 after the break to punch their ticket to the final. Now, with the Den expected to be rocking, Linden looks to defend its home floor and capture the sectional crown.
