🎉EXCITING BOOK NEWS🎉

I’m thrilled to announce that my next novel, EAST COAST LOW, will be published by @transitloungepublishing in early 2027! Eternal gratitude to Barry Scott for backing me a second time.

Sometimes a book takes time to develop into the form it’s meant to take, and this story is no exception. From the seed of an idea in late 2020, it has evolved into a work that I’m incredibly proud of, and I can’t wait to share it with you.

I’m grateful to everyone who’s offered feedback and encouragement along the way and helped me stay the course, with special thanks to @newcastlewritersfestival who longlisted an embryonic version of the opening in their inaugural Fresh Ink Prize, @writingnsw for awarding it highly commended in their Varuna fellowships in 2022 and @ksp_writers_centre for the 2023 fellowship.

Bring on 2027!!! by @lisakenway

Mucking around on Canva when I should be writing, AKA procrasti-designing, because All You Took From Me has had a glow up. While I wait patiently for the real thing, which will be in stores soon, here’s a sneak peek! Isn’t she beautiful?! Gratitude to @transitloungepublishing, to @jppomare for the endorsement and @austcrimewriters & @badcrimesydney for the bling! #allyoutookfromme #thrillerbooks #nedkellyawards #australianbookstagram by @lisakenway

What an entertaining, varied and thought-provoking program the @bluemountainswritersfest team put on this year! I loved every minute of it.

1. Legends @thehammernow and @janecaro57 in conversation with @kmildenhall

2. Micaela Sahar, @antoun.issa and Sara Haddad in conversation with @sarah_b_malik on ‘Right of Return’

3. Michael Winkler, @zoeterakes, @mary.colussi and @rhettsdavis on ‘Shapeshifters’, expertly wrangled by Beejay Silcox

4. @writesfiona (with stage-stealing cameo from Virginia Woof) and @kmildenhall on satire, with the hard-working Beejay Silcox

I popped out to Leura for ‘supplies’ to get me through copy edits and left the beautiful @megalongbooks with these two exciting new releases.

I was gutted to miss the launch of DARK DAYS HOTEL by my brilliant friend @anna_downes_writer this week and would also have loved to have attended an event for fellow @transitloungepublishing author @sarah_hawthornauthor’s new one, HIGH LAND, so this is the next best thing. Can’t wait to get stuck into both of these enticing psychological thrillers.

As an author I often question the value of social media. For now I’ve come to the conclusion that the positives outweigh the negatives. Next week I might think differently. I guess I’m never destined to be an influencer 😂

Is anyone else constantly reevaluating their relationship with social media?

My next novel, EAST COAST LOW, features a fraught thirty year high school reunion, which got me thinking about what I’d say to my younger self if I could go back thirty years. Mostly the message is about self-acceptance. I’m not sure why it’s taken so long for me to get it.

What advice would you give your younger self? Please let me know in the comments.

A spring long weekend in the Blue Mountains is best spent enjoying waratahs in bloom, Leura Garden Festival, quality time with my favourite people, all the carbs, delicious wine and not feeling at all guilty about all the writing that didn’t get done 😅🌸🌷🌼 by @lisakenway

The ups and downs of writing a book told with images from my recent research visit to the fabulous Iris Lodge Alpacas at Jilliby. In case you’re wondering, I’m currently editing my fourth novel manuscript and I’m not convinced it gets easier. You have to love the writing process, even when it spits in your face🦙

Sydney Writers Festival is currently running an astonishing program of free events at the State Library of NSW, including this brilliant, uplifting panel about writing craft with Charlotte Wood and Emily Perkins. For an hour and a half we were treated to the warmth, wisdom and generosity of these highly accomplished writers, facilitated expertly by Ailsa Piper. Get along if you can.

It was a treat to share the experience with friends @fionalloydauthor @shannonanimawriter & Billie-Jean. Also the correct restaurant tag was @botanichousesydney 🤦🏻‍♀️

My tongue in cheek response to millions of people handing ChatGPT their image so they can pretend they had big hair once without considering the consequences. Yes I did wear an alligator clip to my Year 12 formal and yes the hemline was asymmetrical 💃
