Meet John Evans aka my grandpa: the one behind Little Free Libraries @cenizoatx, @cenizodelvalle, @dressforsuccessatx & ours (hi 👋)

Some fun facts about him: he built my childhood home (and playhouse) in Del Valle, he loves fishing, he’s been a carpenter for 50+ years and is now semi-retired so building these has been a passion project that keeps him busy at home! This man doesn’t like to sit still, it’s one of the things I love most about him. He’s brought many of my visions to life, but this by far has been my favorite. I’m forever proud ❤️

Want to bring a Little Free Library to your home or business? You’ll make his day! DM me and I’ll make it happen 📚 #LFL #littlefreelibrary #southaustin #delvalletx @littlefreelibrary by @littlelopezlibros

Honored to be featured as @eastonparkatx’s Eastonite of the Month! It was great to sit down with Director of Community Engagement Paul Cardenas. Fun fact: We’re cousins!! 🎉

“As a Latina author, I know how important it is to have diversity in storytelling and representation in literature. If my book can inspire even one child to believe they can be a writer too, then that’s the kind of legacy I want to leave.” by @littlelopezlibros

November is National Family Literacy Month! Need some reading inspo?? Did you love Heartwood Hotel as much as we did?🌲✨ Meet Sophie Mouse by Poppy Green! If you fell in love with Mona the mouse, Tilly the squirrel & the animals of Heartwood then Pine Hollow Grove is like a second home.

I don’t know about you, but cute illustrations on every page are a way to my 5-year old’s heart & it’s the perfect 1–night read if you’re not sure of where to start with chapter books 🐭
Reading time: 1 hour ⏰ by @littlelopezlibros

Marigolds are blooming and our little library is stocked for Día de los Muertos! 🌼📚 Stop by before tonight or tomorrow to grab a story that honors memory, family, and tradition. by @littlelopezlibros

Screaming for a good book 😱📚 Nothing scary about reading except running out of pages 👻 by @littlelopezlibros

15 days until Día de los Muertos 🕯️✨ This is my second year with @altarxito and Veracruz-born, Austin-based founder Ana sent me her new edition, complete with carrying handle and Velcro closure. The interior has all the thoughtful details of my original—calaveras, candles, marigolds, the water of life, and Xoloitzcuintlis. All made in México ❤️

It’s the most beautiful way to honor your ancestors, celebrate Mexican heritage and make an altar in under 5 minutes. Muchas gracias Ana for this gift and for creating something so special 🤍 by @littlelopezlibros

BOUGHT, BORROWED, STOCKED: We’re back with another week 🖤

✨ BOUGHT so many goodies because I’m a sucker for cozy + spooky: a new kids book filled with witch letters @annieatkins, Goosebumps Go Eat Worms @rl_stine1 (classic covers only in this house), spooky jokes & Polar Night adventures with Grim in Svalbard, Norway by pup owner @sejsejlija (illustrated by @waffleandbear)! 👻🪱

✨ BORROWED Threshing Day because who doesn’t love a Fourth Wing saga release? Thanks Raquel for the hookup @delvallelibrariesmobilelibrary 🐉

✨ STOCKED some Pete the Cat phonics books! And a @readingrainbow snake book circa 1988, can you believe it?! Huge thanks to @halfpricebooks for donating books for several @littlefreelibrary in EP!

P.S. @scholastic released Goosebumps mystery plushies and totally obsessed for our spooky bedtime corner! by @littlelopezlibros

New series ➡️ BOUGHT, BORROWED, STOCKED: Because we’re constantly surrounded by books (let’s just say there’s no literacy crisis in our household):

✨ BOUGHT some gems over the weekend. Stuart Little is always a win and might be the hero of the set, but found some other October-worthy reads that were pretty exciting.

✨ BORROWED a nice stack from @delvallelibrariesmobilelibrary since she won’t be visiting next Monday (catch her at the Skyline market on Sunday from 1:45-3pm instead) Butt or Face was her fun-fact rec that Luke got a kick out of! Bear’s Lost Glasses is great since he wears them. I like to mix funny with relatable, seasonal, bilingual and Luke’s favorite… spooky 🦦👻

✨ STOCKED six new books and it’s always a nice surprise when someone is visiting my library as I’m walking out the front door. It seriously brings me so much joy. The House on Mango Street is a nod to Hispanic Heritage Month which runs through 10/15. #nationalliteracymonth by @littlelopezlibros

Weekend refresh led to a fresh paint job, new stickers and (as my grandpa’s unofficial publicist) a new ‘Handmade by John Evans’ nameplate for anyone who might see his creations out in the wild and want one! Coming soon to every library he’s made: Etsy find by @graindeep.sonya.isac in Canada 🍁 P.S. We had 3 official @littlefreelibrary check-ins in August, pretty cool that we’re on your roadmap of discoveries in ATX!

Another @delvallelibrariesmobilelibrary visit with Raquel since we are breezing through these books thanks to a @beanstackofficial challenge we are doing. Swipe for a peek at this week’s stack! ➡️ by @littlelopezlibros

Gruffalo Granny for the WIN, been waiting a good year for this release! 🥳 by @littlelopezlibros

Thanks to @miguelbrioneswrites for sharing several copies of Macho No Machismo: A Bilingual Book to gift to dual language readers in the neighborhood and at our nearby school! Luke’s in his Luchador mask and giving his best Macho Miguel impression (inspired by the front cover) to tell you that we’ve got a copy in our Little Free Library right now! by @littlelopezlibros

Happy National Read-A-Book Day 📖 Celebrating words from childhood that carry us into adulthood, words we read today that lift us and inspire us. Nods to nature, words that spook, ones where stories connect us to our roots. They’re all so different, some the same and others we recognize by name.
