Thank you to @netgalley and @bloomsburypublishing for allowing me to read this e-arc prior to its official release.

MOTHSBLOOD by @lynndjung is a dark academia fantasy set in modern-day Paris. Prospective alchemy grad student, Larkspur Lee, will do anything to secure her academic future and pass her dream university’s trials—which are interrupted by murder of the headmistress, the immortal Petronelle Flamel. A mysterious investigator assigned to the case, Violaine, believes a cult known as the Promethean Genesis is responsible for Flamel’s murder. But Lark, who is all too familiar with the Prometheans’ horrors, will do anything to stay out of the cult’s reach.

I found the writing atmospheric. Our main character, Lark, was unlikeable, but I found what made her unlikeable compelling: her self-serving ambition in how she manipulated the people around her, weighing their value to her with calculated callousness, and her own ruthlessness towards herself and her body. She would do almost anything and become almost anything for her goals.

I would definitely recommend this book for fans of dark academia and alchemy.
