From my terrace to feudal Japan: here is my latest flash design! 🏯
It all started while watching my cat, Cleo.
She’s an absolute playful spirit: she loves hunting tiny prey and leaving them on the terrace doorstep like a “trophy”.
She moves with the stealth of a Ninja, yet carries herself with the dignity of a Samurai.
Oh, and the moment someone opens a can of fish... she loses her mind!
It made me wonder: what if she was actually one of the two in a past life?
But what’s the real difference between them? ⚔️
Samurai: They followed Bushidō (the way of the warrior), a strict moral code centered on loyalty, courage, and justice. To them, losing honor was worse than death. They fought openly and honorably on the battlefield, wearing heavy armor and wielding their iconic swords, like the katana.
Ninja: They followed no formal code. Their motto was “the end justifies the means”—their only priority was executing the mission and surviving. They specialized in infiltration and guerrilla tactics, often disguising themselves as commoners (farmers, monks, or merchants) and using unconventional, easily concealed weapons like daggers, shuriken, poisons, and blinding powders.
You’ll also spot another element in the drawing: Sake (historically known as nihonshu).
Originally consumed in the 3rd century by imperial elites and Buddhist monks, it spread to samurai and nobles during the Middle Ages before becoming a staple for everyone.
Today, it’s a global cult drink, essential in every izakaya. 🍶
And that sushi at the bottom? Look closer, those aren’t regular rolls... it’s a Koi Carp! 🎏
In Eastern culture, the Koi symbolizes strength, perseverance, and determination due to its ability to swim upstream.
Legend has it that any carp brave enough to leap past the “Dragon’s Gate” waterfall transforms into a powerful dragon.
Well, it looks like this specific carp never made it to the mythical gate... it ended up right between Cleo’s paws. And most definitely in her belly! 😂🐱 by @llorona_ink
