We’re excited to share that NAVAJO HIGHWAYS will be joining us for BOTH nights of Indigenous Film at ¡Mas! Festival this November! Through humor, music, and an imaginative world of puppet characters and their human friends, the series introduces young audiences to Diné Bizaad (the Navajo language) and the importance of keeping cultural traditions alive. The series recently won two regional Emmy awards for Best Informational/Instructional Content and Best Set Design! We’re thrilled to share two different episodes of this wonderful series before each of our upcoming screenings: 🎬November 11- REMAINING NATIVE 🎬 November 18- THE ETERNAL SONG 📍Noble Hall, Joshua Tree Retreat Center Doors at 6:30, Films at 7pm This event is FREE to the public! This screening will begin with a short episode of NAVAJO HIGHWAYS, an Emmy award-winning children’s puppet series dedicated to preserving the Diné language and culture. REMAINING NATIVE: Ku Stevens (17) is the solo runner at his high school with no coach. Living on the Yerington Paiute reservation in Northwest Nevada he needs more to be seen by his dream school, the University of Oregon. As Ku trains, unreconciled emotions unearth the memory of his great-grandfather, Frank Quinn. At 8 years old, Frank ran 50 miles across the desert to escape an Indian boarding school. Frank’s story becomes interwoven with Ku’s journey to run a collegiate qualifying time. Will Ku outrun his history or will he learn to run in parallel with it to achieve his dreams? #indigenousfilm #highdesertevents #masfestival #joshuatree #yuccavalley by @llperea
