One thing I’m learning about being a 40 year old, single woman with no kids (ESPECIALLY in the South) is that there is a lie lurking around every corner that you haven’t been chosen. I have actually chosen this life, mostly, but there is always a question… is it choosing me because of me? Am I just not good enough to be chosen? Am I lying to myself?

This makes being disliked or feelings of rejection, loneliness, or misunderstanding strike a deep nerve. I find myself often noticing its sensitivity in unexpected places. From not being anyone’s favorite person anywhere. From moments where I’m planning something or leaving an event all on my own. From feelings of resentment that the people who have what I don’t reallyyyy should have no reason to question if they’re ‘chosen’ because it’s right in their face every day.

But I know too well that we all wonder if we are good. Good enough to choose, good enough to keep, good enough to stay for and good enough to have and steward what we are given. We all question our worth. This is not just for single people or adults with no kids who wish they had them. We just might get confronted with the question more often.

As uncomfortable as confronting those lies can be, i actually can’t run away, lol. I do believe though that the Lord has and will fight my battles (of the mind), I need only to be still.

Blessed are you who wonder if you are good, for you will be reminded of your Creator’s design. by @lmonique13

I listen to music my friends make on days when I need to be reminded WHO I AM & that this season is not my full life. I’ve been known and loved, I am known and loved, and I will continue to be known and loved.

I am growing in my courage to be disliked. As hard as it is, I know it means I am living a more integrated life. Thanks be to God.

I turn 40 on June 13, 2026.

10 years ago, just before my birthday, I recorded this song in my car. I don’t know exactly where I was mentally, emotionally, or spiritually, but I sang this song over myself.

I had dreamt of moving to NYC by the time I turned 30, and there I was still living in Ohio. I was caught up in some really destructive cycles I couldn’t get away from.

10 years later I could sing this same song over myself.

My life is not where or what I would’ve expected it to look like at 40. Just being honest. I am not at my healthiest and I don’t understand this season sometimes. It feels like a valley and that I’m in the dark about many parts of my future.

That is all the truth. And.

The hope I am reminded of is that God answered my prayer to move to NYC just before I turned 31. I lived my prayers answered in the city I always loved for 7 years.

He knows the longings of my heart for 40 and beyond. It is not finished.

Peace be with you while you walk through the valley following the One who led you there.

So this pic pretty much sums up the interpersonal dynamics of #TheTrust and no, I won’t tell you what I just said and they won’t either. 😆

I will be chewing on that conversation for a long time. Thank you guys for listening, asking good questions, letting me ask and listen and for sharing life with me. by @lmonique13
