It was a pleasure hosting Rep Your Block and Manhattan Young Dems last night to share about the important role of county committee and how folks can get more involved. Here’s my intro to county committee, and photos from the event. Reach out if you want more resources on how to run to rep your block 💪https://nycpolitics101.substack.com/p/more-seats-that-probably-wont-show by @locallysourcednycpol
After a little hiatus, we’re back! I’m putting together a little info-session with @repyourblock and @nycpolitics101 on a little known but influential position in NYC politics, County Committee! County Committee is a hyper-local elected position, forming the building blocks of local organizing. Come meet like-minded New Yorkers who want to get involved at a deeper level in local politics! Attending a private tour and high tea at Gracie Mansion (the mayor’s house) thanks to @nycpolitics101! Such a wonderful afternoon learning about the history of Gracie Mansion and the conservancy that takes care of the mayor’s house (or the people’s house, depending on who you ask) including… - The history of Gracie Mansion - The separation of the Mayor’s residence from the public conservancy side - A high tea meal with vegan dishes and a propriety tea blend - A tour of the on site garden and greenhouse Here’s to learning more and more opportunities to learn about what makes our wonderful city run ☺️ by @locallysourcednycpol
I’m co-hosting another NYC Civic Fair on September 16! When we ran this event in June, we weren’t able to get all the attendees in from the waitlist, so we’re doing it again. NYC Civic Fair is a one-stop shop to connect with local orgs working on housing, transit, elections, and more. Meet the people making change and find your place in the movement. 💪 RSVP here and share suggestions for civic groups we should feature! I started Locally Sourced NYC just over two months ago with one goal in mind — help New Yorkers understand what local politics is. Specifically, how it affects you, how to get involved, and how to find community around it. I’m beyond grateful for everyone who has come to an event, watched/read any of the content I’ve posted, and been along for the ride so far. Today is Election Day in NYC for one of the most important local elections in recent memory. It honestly feels like an inflection point for the trajectory of our city. Having worked for a campaign, Election Day is also one the most stressful days for every organizer around the city. My hope is that every New Yorker will use their voice to ensure that the candidates, the campaign teams, and the organizers’ hard work don’t go to waste. Go vote. Go canvass. Go tell your friends and loved ones to vote. Do whatever you can to make sure we can have elected leaders in New York City who are as vibrant, diverse, and brilliant as the incredible people in this community and all over the city. by @locallysourcednycpol
Ranked choice voting explained… but make it mahjong 🀄️! We’re one day away from the start of early voting in the NYC primaries! Here’s a little refresher on how RCV works. Some things to note for this video. 🀄️Each stack of tiles represents a ballot for a specific race. 🀄️Each suit/tile type represents a candidate in that race. Breakdown of how RCV works! 1️⃣ Ranked choice voting happens in rounds. In the first round, every ballot’s 1st choice will be counted. If a candidate receives >50% of the votes, they win. 2️⃣ If not, we eliminate the candidate with the lowest votes. If your highest ranking candidate is eliminated, then your vote will go to the next highest ranking candidate on your ballot. Then, we count again! 3️⃣ This process continues until there are two candidates remaining, in which case the candidate with the most votes wins! Some hot tips for RCV — ✅ Use all five ranking slots IF THERE ARE FIVE CANDIDATES YOU WOULD BE OKAY WITH WINNING THE RACE. 🚫 Do NOT rank someone if you do not want them to win. Happy voting, everyone! Go make your voices heard! 🎥 Huge thanks to @aejlsmith from @climateclubfriends for helping me shoot and edit this video! #nycprimary #rankedchoicevoting #mahjong #nycelections #localelections by @locallysourcednycpol

Locally Sourced is a group founded on the idea that local politics should be accessible, digestible, easy to get involved in, and most of all, fun. Our inaugural event, held in April, was a Q&A panel focused on providing some transparency into what local politics is. What are the different functions of local government? What do they even do? I’m so honored to have been joined by some incredible past and present local elected officials and people who have been entrenched in the inner workings of city government. Thank you so much to the following guests for sharing their wisdom and experience with our crew: Councilmember Lincoln Restler (@cmrestler @lincolnforcouncil) Former NY State Assemblymember Yuh-Line Niou (@yuhline_niou） Press Secretary of the Campaign Finance Board Timothy Hunter (@the_tim_hunter) And thank you to everyone who attended, asked questions, and made plans to deepen your connection to local politics! Our next event will be held on June 3rd in partnership with @nycpolitics101. Stay tuned!
